Alma

The Alma College swim and dive team competed in the A3 Carthage Classic last week, taking seventh place of ten teams. Many Scots qualified to compete in the finals events, eight of which finished among the top ten of all swimmers in their races. Freshman Sarah Gaines (Colorado Springs, Colo./Liberty) had the best finish for the Scots when she took fifth place in the 100-meter individual medley finals. 


No. 19 Calvin

Calvin took third at its own Calvin Winter Invite over the weekend, recording a three-day team total of 1,430 points, finishing only behind GLIAC opponents Grand Valley State and Northern Michigan. Calvin sophomore Hannah Chao shattered a school record in the 100 backstroke with a time of 56.61. The time currently ranks eighth nationally in Division III. Emily Gunderson had a time of 23.60, leading off Calvin's 200 freestyle relay. Her time ranks 13th nationally. Her time helped Calvin's 200 freestyle relay post a time of 1:34.88 that ranks seventh nationally. Calvin's 400 freestyle relay recorded a time of 3:32.21 that ranks 14th nationally. Calvin's 800 freestyle relay team came in at 7:40.65 on Thursday night. That time ranks ninth nationally.


Hope

Hope College women’s swimmers recorded first-place performances in four individual events and two relays during the Wheaton College (Ill.) Invitational on Saturday. Sophomore Meg Peel (Spring Lake, Mich./Spring Lake) won the 500-yard freestyle and the 100 backstroke. Sophomore Hope Reynolds (Exon, Pa./Villa Maria) clocked the fastest tie in the 200 backstroke. Junior Erin Emmert (Grand Blanc, Mich./Flint Powers Catholic) took first in the 200 butterfly. The Flying Dutch also won the 200 and 400 medley relays en route to a third-place team score of 710 points. Also, diver Sara Plohetski (South Lyon, Mich./South Lyon) finished first on the 3-meter board during the Carthage College Invitational on Saturday. Plohetski topped a field of 15 divers during the competition hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh with a season-best score of 331.60 points.


Kalamazoo

The Kalamazoo College women's swimming and diving team finished fifth at the three day Calvin Invitational. Nicki Bailey finished second overall in the 3-meter diving event with as score of 408.25. Posting top times for the Hornets in other events on Saturday were: 200 Medley Relay (Anderson, Logsdon, Roberts, Radermacher) - 1:50.21, Mary Trimble (500 Free) - 5:19.43, Olivia Anderson (200 Back) - 2:13.14, Steph Rauhoff (100 Fly) - :59.13, Molly Logsdon (200 Breast) - 2:28.23, Courtney McGinnis (100 Free) - :54.33, and Olivia Anderson (200 IM) - 2:17.93. Kalamazoo is scheduled to compete next Jan. 12, 2019 at Wheaton.
