The NCAA released the quarterfinal pairings for the final three rounds, with fifth-seeded Calvin taking on No. 4 seed Johnson & Wales (35-0) Thursday, Nov. 16 at 8 p.m. ET. The winner will take on the winner of top-seeded Whittenberg vs. eight-seed Swarthmore Friday, Nov. 17. The other four teams are No. 2 seed Emory, No. 3 seed Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, No. 6 seed Gustavus Adolphus, and No. 7 seed Ithaca.
The 2017 NCAA Championship contest is slated for Saturday, Nov. 18 at 7 p.m. ET.
The Knights started their march back to the national quarterfinals with a 3-2 victory over No. 13 WashU in the First Round in a re-match of last year's title tilt. Calvin was emphatic in winning the first two sets, but the Bears battled back with wins in the third and fourth sets to force the decisive fifth set. There, WashU was on the verge of knocking off Calvin thanks to four match points, but the Knights went on a 6-0 run to defeat the Bears in a 16-14 thriller.
Calvin then hit a blistering .395 in a three-set win over No. 11 Millikin in the Second Round. Four Calvin players had at least seven kills; Jenna Lodewyk had seven kills to go with 26 assists and six digs.
The Knights then again needed five sets to defeat No. 17-ranked Carthage in the Regional Final, as Carthage rallied from a two-set deficit before Calvin emerged with a 15-9 win in the fifth set. Sarah DeVries' all-around game of team-highs in kills (16), digs (22), and service aces (3) helped fuel the Knights.
