Adrian Defends MIAA Baseball Tournament Title in 2024
KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Adrian College went undefeated over the week to win the 2024 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Baseball Tournament title.
This is the second-straight year that the Bulldogs clinched the tournament championship and the tenth time in program history.
Second-seeded Adrian opened the tournament with a 7-4 home victory over Hope College. Both Joe Casale and Nic Bruder led the Bulldogs with two runs, while pitcher Jakob Charles totaled three strikeouts. On Hope's side, pitcher Matt Plaehn had a game-high five strikeouts and Owen Krizan led the team with two runs.
In the second contest for the Bulldogs, Adrian had a 3-2 edge at top-seeded Kalamazoo College. Bruder, Travis Liford, and Ryan Davis each scored a run for the Bulldogs. Adrian pitcher Jaxon Clark struck out four players. Robert Newland scored both runs for the Hornets and pitcher Owen Schihl had two strikeouts.
Adrian once again faced the Flying Dutchmen in the championship matchup where the Bulldogs claimed the tournament crown with an 8-3 victory. Both Linken Hayward and Rolando Jimenez led the squad with two runs each. The Bulldogs totaled six strikeouts between Daniel Gutierrez and Lincoln Lipinski. For Hope, three different players tallied a run including Devin Meeuwsen, Al Money, and Andrew Pickett.
Adrian receives the automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship. The baseball championship field will be announced during the selection show on Monday, May 13, at 12:00 p.m.
