MIAA Athlete of the Week - November 17, 2025

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. -- The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) has announced its Athletes of the Week for the period covering November 10-16. Each week throughout the academic year, the conference recognizes standout performances from student-athletes across its member institutions.

The MIAA Athlete of the Week honors are selected from nominations submitted by head coaches at each school. These awards spotlight the top individual efforts in competition and showcase the high level of play within the conference.

Selections are released every Monday at 4:00 p.m., with the exception of weeks impacted by federal holidays.


MIAA Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week - Jalen Overway, Calvin University
Junior center Jalen Overway came close to a triple-double in Calvin’s 85–70 win at Colorado College on Saturday. In 32 minutes, he posted 30 points, 10 rebounds, eight assists, a steal, and a block while shooting 9-of-14 (.643) from the field and 12-of-16 (.750) at the free-throw line. Overway currently leads the MIAA with 34 field goals, 83 points, 27.7 points per game, and 10.3 rebounds per game.

MIAA Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week - Meghan Trewhella, Albion College
Junior guard Meghan Trewhella had an outstanding weekend in Albion’s 2-0 stretch. She opened with a 69-63 win over Hiram, going 5-of-9 (.556) from the field for 16 points, a perfect 6-of-6 at the free-throw line, and grabbing eight rebounds. She followed with a breakout performance in an 88-84 overtime win against Concordia-Chicago, shooting 12-of-20 (.600) and scoring a career-high 35 points—fifth all-time for a single game at Albion—while adding an 11-for-12 (.917) effort at the line and nine rebounds. Trewhella currently leads the conference with 70 points (23.3. per game), 26 field goals, and 18 free throws.

MIAA Football Offensive Athlete of the Week - Offensive Line, Alma College
The Alma offensive line powered the Scots to the 2025 MIAA Football Championship and an undefeated league record. In the title-clinching win over Adrian, the unit anchored a rushing attack that produced 261 yards and averaged 5.6 yards per carry, while also allowing zero sacks in the passing game.

MIAA Football Defensive Athlete of the Week - Corey Garrison II, Kalamazoo College
Senior linebacker Corey Garrison delivered a standout performance for the Hornets at Trine, finishing with 11 total tackles—four solo and seven assisted—along with 1.5 tackles for loss and a sack. In conference play, Garrison tallied 20 solo tackles, 25 assisted tackles, and 1.5 sacks.

MIAA Football Special Teams Athlete of the Week - Brice Kempf, Alma College
Senior punter Brice Kempf played a key role in Alma’s 35-34 victory over Adrian, a win that secured the Scots’ outright MIAA title. Kempf recorded three punts for 116 yards, including a long of 44 yards, with two punts inside the 20 and one fair catch. Over the regular-season, he finished with 11 punts for 409 yards, two fair catches, and four punts downed inside the 20.

MIAA Men's Swimming Athlete of the Week - Tyler Deubel, Albion College
Freshman Tyler Deubel won all three of his individual events at Alma, taking first in the 1000 free (10:06.63), 100 breast (1:03.12), and 500 free (4:52.57). Each of those times stood as the fastest in the MIAA last week. He also posted a personal best in the 1000 free and recorded season-best marks in his other two events.

MIAA Volleyball Player of the Week - Sarah Bradley, Calvin University
Freshman outside hitter Sarah Bradley played an important role in helping Calvin secure the 2025 MIAA Volleyball Tournament title. In the Knights’ 3-0 semifinal sweep of Albion, she recorded eight kills, two service aces, two block assists, seven digs, and 11 points. Bradley followed with another strong performance in the 3-1 championship win over Hope, contributing 14 kills, two service aces, two block assists, 10 digs, and 17 points. She currently ranks in the conference’s top ten with 84 kills, 13 service aces, and 106 points.

MIAA Volleyball Specialist of the Week - Emma Ekblaw, Calvin University
Senior middle blocker and return specialist Emma Ekblaw played a key role in helping the Knights capture the 2025 MIAA Volleyball Tournament title. In Calvin’s 3-0 semifinal sweep of Albion, she recorded five blocks, four kills, four digs, and 6.5 points. Ekblaw followed with a standout performance in the 3-1 championship win over Hope, finishing with 14 kills on a .480 hitting percentage, two blocks, five digs, and 21.5 points. She currently ranks among the top four in the conference with a .317 hitting percentage and 33 blocks.

MIAA Wrestling Athlete of the Week - Cade Odrobina, Albion College
Senior Cade Odrobina dominated the 133 bracket with a perfect 4-0 record at the Albion Invitational, earning 25.0 team points—five more than his impressive performance the previous weekend—and securing bonus points in every match. He opened with a fall over Ohio Wesleyan’s Anthony Rocco (6:58), followed by major-decision victories against Rochester Christian’s Julian Rojas (13-1) and John Carroll’s Alex Crane (8-0). Odrobina clinched the title with a win by injury default over Cristian Rojas of Rochester Christian, completing an outstanding day that culminated in a first-place finish.
