Hope Dominates Final Night to Clinch Fifth-Straight MIAA Women's Swimming and Diving Title 2/22/2025 9:10:00 PM Share: GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The 2025 MIAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships concluded with a dominant performance from Hope College, securing its fifth consecutive team title. The final night featured record-breaking swims and thrilling races as the competition came to a close. Calvin University’s Zoe Poe kicked off the individual events with a victory in the 1650 freestyle, touching in 17:30.48. Hope’s Norah Martin (17:48.82) and Natalie Pitera (17:59.38) completed the podium. Hope’s Sara Kraus continued her impressive meet with a win in the 200 backstroke, finishing in 1:58.29. Knight Emma Merkel placed second (2:00.25), and Hope’s Katie Hermann finished third (2:01.48). The 100 freestyle saw a new league record as Hope’s Laurel Wasiniak powered to victory in 49.71, breaking the previous mark of 50.04 set in 2018. Teammate Greta Gidley followed closely in 50.14, while Albion College’s Hannah Fathman took third in 50.17. Briton Mattie Smith claimed the 200 breaststroke title in 2:19.97, just ahead of Hope’s Lauren Ryle (2:20.38). Madi Remenschneider of Hope finished third in 2:24.57. In the 200 butterfly, Hope’s Emme D’Errico captured the gold in 2:05.68, followed by teammates Grace Wesley (2:11.27) and Megan Wedeking (2:11.72), completing a podium sweep for the Flying Dutch. Hope’s 400 freestyle relay team capped off the night with another MIAA record-setting performance. The quartet of Lauren Ryle, Bella Turner, Greta Gidley, and Laurel Wasiniak finished in 3:22.41, breaking the previous mark set in 2023.
