FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. -- At the conclusion of the 2025 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) men's tennis regular season, eight head coaches from the MIAA's member institutions that sponsor men's tennis voted on All-MIAA awards.
Kalamazoo College senior Adnan Alousi was voted the 2025 MIAA Most Valuable Player after leading the Hornets to a 7-0 mark in league play to claim the regular-season title. Alousi concluded the 2025 campaign with an unblemished mark of 7-0 at No. 1 singles and earned a 5-1 record at No. 2 doubles. He is now a four-time All-MIAA honoree after receiving a spot on the First Team this season.
Alousi has also been named the recipient of the Dr. Allen B. Stowe Memorial Award. This honor is in memory of Dr. Allen B. Stowe, longtime professor and tennis coach at Kalamazoo College, and takes into consideration contributions to the team, leadership quality, and exemplification of ethical virtues and sportsmanship.
A two-time team captain, Alousi consistently sets the standard for respectful competition, treating both teammates and opponents with kindness and fairness. His conduct during matches reflects his integrity -- he is known for offering sincere compliments to opponents and maintaining a positive, respectful demeanor during matches. Alousi’s commitment to upholding the values of sportsmanship makes him a role model both on and off the court, embodying the very essence of the Dr. Allen B. Stowe Award.
Kalamazoo head coach Mark Riley stated, "Adnan carries himself with class on and off the court -- certainly a good example for his teammates and his competitors."
Trine University's Elijah Schilthuis earned the 2025 Dr. Lawrence Green Award. This award is a scholar-athlete honor named in memory of Dr. Lawrence Green, longtime tennis coach at Hope College. In order to be considered, individuals must be a senior and a letter winner on the team for two years.
A Biology major with a perfect 4.0 grade-point average, Schilthuis is completing his MBA program this summer and will graduate from Trine in just three years. He will continue his academic journey this fall at Grand Valley State University, where he will pursue a graduate degree in Physician Assistant studies -- an aspiration inspired by witnessing the medical challenges faced by some of his family members. Schilthuis's passion for healthcare began early, volunteering at a nursing home at age 15. His compassion has only grown since, with meaningful experiences ranging from lifting a patient’s spirits through a balloon game to supporting someone at high risk for suicide. Since 2023, he has worked as a psychiatric technician at Pine Rest Christian Mental Health. On the tennis court, Elijah has been a consistent contributor for Trine’s varsity team, competing in the No. 3-4 singles and No. 2-3 doubles positions with a career singles record of 31-22, placing him among the top 20 in program history. Schilthuis’s remarkable balance of academic excellence, athletic commitment, and service to others reflects the spirit of the Dr. Lawrence Green Award.
"Elijah is extremely deserving of this award as he exemplifies what it means to be a true student-athlete," commented Thunder head coach Erin Kolar. "His discipline, passion, and perseverance have fueled his success and inspired others. It was an absolute honor to be part of his journey and I can't wait to see what's next."
Alousi earned All-MIAA accolades for the fourth time in his career, while Trine's Andrew Spirrison became a three-time all-conference honoree. Adrian College's Brandon Falk, Hope's Paul Schneider, and Kalamazoo's Alex Fleming received their second All-MIAA accolades.
