Mackenna Kelly Earns MIAA Women's Golf Coach of the Year in Debut Season at the Helm of Trine's Program

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. -- In her first season as head coach, Mackenna Kelly has been named the 2025 MIAA Women’s Golf Coach of the Year after leading the Trine University Thunder to a strong second-place finish in conference play.

A Trine graduate and former assistant for both the men’s and women’s golf programs, Kelly made an immediate impact in her debut season at the helm. Her leadership helped the Thunder close the season on a high note, highlighted by a team victory at the MIAA Spring Finale.

Freshman Rylee Smith led the way at the Spring Finale, earning medalist honors with a two-day total of 152 (78/74). Her performance helped propel Trine to a team score of 640 and secure the event win.

Under Kelly’s guidance, two Trine golfers earned First Team All-MIAA honors by finishing in the top six of the overall conference standings, while another golfer was named to the Second Team for finishing in the top 12.

"I am honored to be named the women's MIAA Coach of Year in my first season," commented Kelly. "This reflects the hard work and heart of a special group of athletes. I'm proud of what we've built and even more excited for what's ahead next season."

Kelly’s recognition as Coach of the Year is a testament to her ability to foster both individual excellence and team success in her first season, laying a strong foundation for the future of Trine women’s golf.
