Calvin Men’s Soccer Reclaims MIAA Crown with Unbeaten Conference Run

BRIGHTON, Mich. -- For the first time since 2023, Calvin University men’s soccer is back atop the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA). The Knights captured the 2026 regular-season championship with an unbeaten 6-0-1 conference record, securing the program’s 35th overall title. Calvin enters postseason play with an impressive 14-1-2 overall record.

Calvin’s dominance on both ends of the field defined its conference campaign. The Knights led the MIAA with 28 goals scored while allowing just two goals across seven league matches. Their balanced attack and disciplined defensive play helped them finish the regular season undefeated in conference action.

Colin Nieuwenhuis led the Calvin attack, finishing tied-for-first in the MIAA with 13 points during conference play. Nieuwenhuis recorded five goals and three assists while leading the league with three game-winning tallies. Mats Bramer provided another offensive spark, leading the conference with four assists, while Matt Torrell and Chase Alexandre each contributed four goals against MIAA opponents. In goal, John Hargett anchored the Knights’ defense, allowing just two goals in conference play while recording three shutouts.

As the top seed in the 2026 MIAA Men's Soccer Tournament presented by Collegiate Credit Union, Calvin looks to carry its regular-season success into the postseason. The tournament begins October 31 with first-round matchups featuring No. 4 Kalamazoo College hosting No. 5 Adrian College and No. 3 Hope College hosting No. 6 Alma College. The six-team field also includes No. 2 Albion College, which joins Calvin in earning a first-round bye. The semifinals are scheduled for November 3, followed by the championship match on November 7.
