Trine’s Rang Repeats as MIAA Women’s Basketball Coach of the Year

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. -- Trine University head coach Andy Rang has been named the 2026 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Women’s Basketball Coach of the Year after leading the Thunder to another dominant conference season.

Rang guided Trine to a 15-1 record in MIAA play and a 22-5 overall mark, securing the program’s second-consecutive regular-season title and seventh in school history. The championship run highlighted the Thunder’s consistency and depth throughout the season, as they once again established themselves as one of the conference’s premier programs.

This marks the second straight-year Rang has received the conference’s top coaching honor, further cementing his impact on the program. Now in his 14th season as a member of the Trine coaching staff and his eighth as head coach, Rang has played a pivotal role in elevating the Thunder to sustained success.

Under Rang’s leadership, three Trine players earned All-MIAA recognition this season. Freshman guard Annika Southworth and sophomore guard Madison Wagner were both named to the All-MIAA First Team, while junior guard Ally Capouch secured Second Team honors. The trio’s performances exemplified the team’s balance of emerging talent and experienced leadership.

"I'm incredibly honored to be named MIAA Coach of the Year," commented Rang, "but this award also belongs to our players and staff. Their work ethic, trust, and commitment to each other made this season special. The quality of teams and coaches in the MIAA makes this recognition especially meaningul. I'm proud of the culture we have built at Trine."

Rang’s recognition reflects not only the Thunder’s championship results but also the culture of development and competitiveness he has fostered within the program as Trine continues to build on its success.
