Timely Hitting Comes Up Short as Adrian Baseball Drops Opening Round Game of NCAA Regionals

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College baseball team kicked off the NCAA DIII Baseball Regional on Friday afternoon. The No. 2 seeded Bulldogs opened with No. 3 DePauw and was dropped to the consolation bracket after a 12-4 loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • DePauw took and early 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but Christian Oliver drove in a run in the bottom of the first to make it 3-1.
  • DePauw jumped out big adding one in the second and six in the fourth to lead 10-1.
  • In the fifth inning, DePauw added another run before extending the lead to 12-1 in the seventh.
  • In the bottom of the seventh, Jake Burns singled in a run followed by a sacrifice fly from Brendan Willadsen to trail 12-3.
  • Oliver drove in another run in the eighth on a solo home run to end the game at 12-4.
  • Adrian totaled 11 hits as a team including two from Gabe Jones, Oliver, Burns, and Jack Boike.

UP NEXT

The Bulldogs will look to keep their season alive in the consolation bracket tomorrow against No. 1 seeded Wittenberg University at 11:00 AM from Nicolay Field. With a victory, Adrian will play again at approximately 6:00 PM for a chance to return to the Regional Championship.
