Historic Performances Bring USILA All-America Recognition to the MIAA

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) continued its rise on the national stage as five student-athletes earned recognition on the 2026 United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Division III All-America Teams.

Hope College led the conference with four selections following a historic season that saw the Flying Dutchmen reach new heights, while Calvin University secured its first-ever USILA All-American selection in program history.

Hope junior attacker Gibson Heethuis and senior defender John Foster highlighted the conference’s honorees with Third Team All-America distinction. Flying Dutchmen sophomore attacker Preston Hoexum and freshman midfielder Jackson Vasquez earned Honorable Mention recognition, alongside Calvin junior defender Drew Garrison.

Third Team All-America

Heethuis earned national recognition after authoring one of the most productive offensive seasons in Hope men’s lacrosse history.

The junior attacker helped lead the Flying Dutchmen to a perfect 6-0 conference record, the MIAA regular-season championship, the MIAA Men’s Lacrosse Tournament title, and the program’s first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals. Hope finished the year with a remarkable 20-1 overall record.

A three-time All-MIAA honoree, Heethuis reached 100 career goals in just his 48th collegiate game and became only the fourth player in program history to surpass 200 career points. During his record-setting campaign, Heethuis eclipsed 100 points in a season for the first time and became the first player in program history to record more than 50 assists in a single season while establishing a school record in assists.

He finished the year with 64 goals, 74 assists, and 138 points across 21 starts, adding 117 shots on goal with a .780 shots-on-goal percentage, along with 47 ground balls and 15 caused turnovers.

Joining him on the Third Team was Hope senior defender John Foster, who anchored one of the nation’s top defensive units.

The 2026 MIAA Most Valuable Defensive Player and three-time All-MIAA selection started 20 contests and compiled 72 ground balls and 40 caused turnovers during Hope’s historic season. Foster added to his growing list of accolades after receiving IMLCA All-Region Honorable Mention recognition in 2025 and helped establish the Flying Dutchmen as a national contender.

Honorable Mention All-America

Hoexum earned Honorable Mention status following a breakout sophomore season that helped power Hope’s high-scoring offense.

A 2026 All-MIAA First Team selection, Hoexum started 20 games and totaled 64 goals and 30 assists for 94 points. He added 112 shots on goal with a .655 shots-on-goal percentage while contributing 41 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers.

Vasquez quickly emerged as one of the conference’s most impactful newcomers.

The freshman midfielder was named the 2026 MIAA Rookie of the Year and earned First Team All-MIAA honors after helping guide Hope to its championship season. Vasquez contributed 20 goals and six assists while adding significant value in possession play with 83 ground balls and 76 faceoff wins. He closed the year with a .712 shots-on-goal percentage and 13 caused turnovers.

Calvin’s Drew Garrison rounded out the MIAA honorees and made program history in the process.

The junior defender became the first player in Calvin men’s lacrosse history to receive USILA All-America recognition after helping the Knights post a program-record 13 victories and five conference wins while reaching the MIAA Men’s Lacrosse Tournament Championship game for the first time.

A 2026 All-MIAA First Team selection, Garrison recorded 52 caused turnovers — the second-highest single-season total in program history — and ranked ninth nationally in NCAA Division III statistics in caused turnovers per game at 3.25. He also collected 70 ground balls while serving as the centerpiece of Calvin’s defensive success.

The MIAA’s five All-America selections reflect another milestone season for men’s lacrosse across the conference, with historic team achievements and individual performances continuing to elevate the league’s presence on the national stage.
