FREELAND, Mich. – On Wednesday, July 28, the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) announced the list of 1,670 student-athletes from the conference’s nine member institutions named to the 2020-21 MIAA Academic Honor Roll. This marks the sixth-straight year that the total number of honorees surpassed 1,200 student-athletes.
To be recognized, student-athletes must reach a 3.5 grade-point average for the academic year and earn a varsity letter in an MIAA-sponsored sport. Student-athletes who reached the academic standard but did not compete this year due to COVID-19 were still eligible for academic honors, along with fifth-year seniors.
Overall, Hope had the highest number of Academic Honor Roll selections with 270, followed by Calvin with 232 and Albion with 222. Trine was fourth with 205 and Adrian rounded out the top five with 181.
A record 230 MIAA student-athletes posted a 4.0 grade-point average during the 2020-21 academic year.
Along with academic success, MIAA student-athletes showed their strength in competition -- 248 were multi-sport honorees and 116 competed in three sports in 2020-21.
