Hope Wins 2024 MIAA Volleyball Tournament

HOLLAND, Mich. -- Hope College captured the 2024 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Volleyball Tournament championship in a thrilling display of skill and determination, marking their sixth tournament title in program history. The Flying Dutch earned a 3-1 victory over rival Calvin University in Saturday’s final at DeVos Fieldhouse.

Hope’s path to the championship was a testament to their grit and teamwork. Entering the tournament as the top seed after an impressive regular season, the Flying Dutch remained focused and hungry. They opened the tournament with a commanding sweep of Trine University in the semifinals, setting the stage for the championship showdown against Calvin—a rivalry rich in MIAA history.

In front of a packed and electric home crowd, Hope showcased their depth and versatility. Senior Addie VanderWeide led the charge with 15 kills after earning MIAA Most Valuable Player for her standout performances throughout the regular-season. Setter Lauren Lee orchestrated the offense masterfully, dishing out 55 assists. Meanwhile, Samantha Seib tallied 26 digs to stifle Calvin’s attack.

The Flying Dutch’s resilience shone brightest in the pivotal third set. Tied at one set apiece, Hope shifted the momentum firmly in their favor with a 25-15 third-set win. They carried that energy into the fourth set, closing out the match 25-15 and erupting in celebration as the final point landed.

With the victory, Hope secures the MIAA’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Volleyball Tournament. The Flying Dutch will look to build on their conference success and make a deep run on the national stage. The selection show is scheduled for Monday, November 18, at 1:00 p.m. on www.ncaa.com.

Hope’s remarkable season, capped by their tournament triumph, reaffirms their status as one of the premier volleyball programs in Division III. As they prepare for their next challenge, the Flying Dutch have already etched their names in the storied history of MIAA volleyball.
