Hope's Peter Stuursma Tabbed 2024 MIAA Football Coach of the Year

WHITE LAKE, Mich. -- Hope College head football coach Peter Stuursma has been honored as the 2024 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Football Coach of the Year, recognizing his outstanding leadership and success throughout the season. On November 19, Stuursma was also announced as the Region 4 Coach of the Year by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA).

Under Stuursma's guidance, the Flying Dutchmen delivered a remarkable 2024 campaign with the program's first 10-0 record in school history. The team showcased dominance in conference play with an unblemished 7-0 record and a relentless drive toward success. Known for his ability to inspire and develop his student-athletes, Stuursma has cultivated a culture of discipline, hard work, and camaraderie within the Hope football program.

Since taking the helm at his alma mater, Stuursma has led the program to three MIAA titles and six NCAA Division III playoff appearances, reinforcing his reputation as one of the premier coaches in the MIAA. This year’s recognition is a testament to his ability to achieve success while prioritizing the personal and academic growth of his players.


Stuursma commented, "This is such a team recognition award. Our staff does an excellent job coaching our players to be successful and our players are really good. We are honored to work with the young men in our program every day." 

The MIAA Coach of the Year award is voted on by the league's head coaches, underscoring the respect Stuursma has earned from his peers. His dedication to excellence and innovative approach to the game have set a high standard for collegiate football in the MIAA.

Stuursma and the Flying Dutchmen will undoubtedly look to build on this year's success, further solidifying their place as a powerhouse in Division III football. Hope will host Aurora in the NCAA Second Round on Saturday, November 30, at noon.
