Twelve MIAA Men's Cross Country Athletes and Seven Teams Earn 2024 USTFCCCA Academic Honors

NEW ORLEANS, La. -- Twelve student-athletes and seven programs from the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) have been recognized with 2024 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Men's Cross Country Academic Honors.

Individual Honorees

Student-athletes from five MIAA institutions were honored for their dedication in the classroom and on the cross country course. In order to qualify for All-Academic distinction, student athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 on a 4.0 scale and finish in the top-25 percent of their respective regional championship meet.

  • Adrian College - Will Houvener

  • Calvin University - Caleb Gaffner, Luke Witvliet

  • Hope College - Logan Begeman, Elias Kretchmar, Ian Petruska, Connor Vachon

  • Kalamazoo College - Carson Cook

  • Trine University - Clay Batio, Ryan Hoopingarner, Gahrig Longe, Max Van Huis

Team Academic Honors

MIAA cross country programs were also recognized for their outstanding collective academic performances, with seven teams earning distinction for maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.1 or higher.

  • Adrian College – 3.165 GPA

  • Alma College – 3.46 GPA

  • Calvin University – 3.538 GPA

  • Hope College – 3.49 GPA

  • Kalamazoo College – 3.35 GPA

  • The University of Olivet – 3.41 GPA

  • Trine University – 3.437 GPA

These honors highlight the commitment of MIAA student-athletes to achieving excellence both in competition and in the classroom.
