Witvliet (Grandville, Mich./Calvin Christian) earned the honor from the CSC for the second straight year after being named a CSC Third Team Academic All-America following the 2023-24 academic year. To be eligible for CSC Academic All-America honors, individuals needed to have maintained a cumulative team grade point average (GPA) of 3.50 or above, been a sophomore or above in academic standing and recorded a top-50 individual finish in either cross country or track and field in their respective region. In addition, individuals must have been placed on the CSC Academic All-District Team and then advanced to the national ballot. The CSC Academic All-America program is voted upon strictly by members of the College Sports Communicators Association. During the 2024-25 academic year, Witvliet was a major contributor for the Knights' cross country and track and field teams, helping the Knights win their 37th consecutive MIAA Cross Country Championship and then second place finishes at the MIAA indoor and outdoor championships. Witvliet earned MIAA Most Valuable Runner honors after winning the conference cross country meet for the second straight season, and then finished second in the NCAA III Regional and 80th at the NCAA III Cross Country Championships. During the indoor season, Witvliet earned Second Team All-America honors following a 10th-place finish in the 5000 meters of the NCAA III Indoor Championships. He also won the 5000 meters at the MIAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, and finished third in the region both the 3000 and 5000 meters. To close his running career, Witvliet battled through injuries to finish third in the 10000 meters at the MIAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. A senior biochemistry major with a 4.0 GPA, Witvliet is an eight-time member of the Calvin Dean's List and a four-time MIAA Academic Honor Roll honoree. He is also a four-time USTFCCCA All-Academic selection for cross country and a 2024 USTFCCCA All-Academic selection in track and field. Off the track, Witvliet volunteered at various medical centers and clinics in Grand Rapids, Michigan, during his four years at Calvin, including each Thursday at the Exalta Health Community Clinic, where he served uninsured, underinsured and refugee populations. Witvliet gives Calvin 165 total CSC Academic All-Americans in school history, which ranks ninth among all NCAA III schools.
