Knights Sweep Through Bracket to Claim MIAA Men's Soccer Tournament Title

HOLLAND, Mich. -- The third-seeded Calvin University men’s soccer team stormed through the 2025 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Tournament to capture the conference title, capping the run with a 2-0 victory over top-seeded Hope College. With the win, the Knights earn the MIAA’s automatic bid into the 2025 NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Tournament.

Calvin opened its postseason campaign with a dominant 5-0 victory over The University of Olivet in the first round. Zac Brooks got the Knights on the board at 30:02 off an assist from Toby Simeoni. Will Lanham added to the lead with goals at 41:15 and 71:45, assisted by Simeoni and Brooks, respectively. Matt Torrell extended the advantage with a goal at 75:38, and Atsoma Agbu sealed the win with a strike at 83:36 assisted by Athan Ladas. Goalkeeper Zac Moore recorded two saves in the shutout effort.

In the semifinals, Calvin carried its momentum to Albion College, where the Knights defeated the second-seeded Britons 4-1. Bennett Quijano opened the scoring in the eighth minute on an assist from Jake Ziolo, followed by a goal from Simeoni at 29:24 assisted by Hans Pruis. Torrell converted a penalty kick at 32:09 to give Calvin a commanding lead, and Pol Sabe closed out the scoring with a goal at 49:59 assisted by Ziolo. Moore totaled one save in goal.

The championship match featured another standout performance as Calvin blanked top-seeded Hope, 2-0. Simeoni netted both goals, scoring in the 26th and 89th minutes, with Quijano assisting on the opener. Moore turned away three shots to secure his second shutout of the tournament and the MIAA Tournament crown for the Knights.

With the win, Calvin earns the conference’s automatic berth in the 2025 NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Tournament, marking another postseason appearance for the storied program.
