HOLLAND, Mich. -- The No. 22-ranked Calvin University volleyball team captured the 2025 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Volleyball Tournament championship with a 3-1 victory over top-seeded and seventh-ranked Hope College on Saturday. With the win, the Knights earned the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Volleyball Tournament. The NCAA Selection Show is scheduled for Sunday, November 17, at 1:00 p.m.
Entering the postseason as the No. 2 seed, Calvin earned a first-round bye before sweeping Albion College, 3-0, in the semifinals. Aerin Baker led the Knights’ balanced attack with nine kills, while Delaney Kemp paced the team with 20 assists and three aces. Kemp and Grace Spoelma each added nine digs, while Madison Wiersema and Emma Ekblaw dominated at the net with five blocks apiece. Sarah Bradley tallied 11 points to round out the effort. The Knights held statistical edges over Albion in points (53-43), kills (37-33), blocks (10-6), and assists (34-32).
In the championship match against Hope, Calvin delivered a powerful all-around performance to take the 3-1 victory and the conference title. Ekblaw and Bradley led the offense with 14 kills each, while Ekblaw also contributed three aces, seven blocks, and a team-high 21.5 points. Kemp guided the offense with 21 assists, and Tryna Vander Zwaag anchored the defense with 19 digs. The Knights outperformed the Flying Dutch in nearly every category, including points (75-57), kills (54-46), aces (9-3), blocks (12-8), assists (50-42), and digs (76-62).
With the win, Calvin adds another MIAA Tournament championship to its storied history and advances to the NCAA Division III Volleyball Tournament, looking to continue its momentum.
