FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. -- The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) has announced its 2025 All-MIAA Men's Soccer award winners, voted on by the head coaches from the MIAA's eight member institutions, recognizing standout performances and leadership across the conference.
Most Valuable Player – Matt Torrell, Calvin University
Calvin's midfield maestro, Matt Torrell, has been named the MIAA's Most Valuable Player after leading the Knights to a 5-1-1 conference record and a 14-3-1 overall mark.
A driving force behind Calvin's attack, the junior ranks among the league's top five in nearly every major offensive category—23 shots, 12 on goal, five goals, and four assists—while pacing the MIAA with 14 total points. His blend of creativity and control in the midfield helped Calvin secure another strong postseason position.
Dr. Marvin A. Zuidema Award – Evan Pollens-Voigt, Kalamazoo College
Kalamazoo senior Evan Pollens-Voigt has been selected as the Zuidema Award recipient. Presented to a senior selected for contributions to team play, leadership qualities, demonstration of ethical virtues and excellence in athletics and academics, the Marvin Zuidema Award was established in 1999 in honor of the late Dr. Marvin Zuidema, longtime men's soccer coach and athletic administrator at Calvin.
A steady presence on the Hornets' back line, Pollens-Voigt started all 13 matches he played in, helping hold opponents to a 1.66 goals-against average during his minutes on the field. Beyond his defensive prowess, he contributed two goals and served as a team captain, embodying leadership both on and off the pitch. A double major in Psychology and Spanish, Pollens-Voigt maintains an impressive 3.9 GPA.
Freshman of the Year – Robin Ruigendijk, Albion College
Albion's Robin Ruigendijk made an immediate impact for the Britons, earning Freshman of the Year honors.
Ruigendijk's composure and playmaking ability in the midfield helped guide Albion to a 5-1-1 conference record and the No. 2 seed in the MIAA Tournament. The young midfielder leads the league with five assists and sits among the top ten in shots (22), shots on goal (10), and points (9).
