MIAA Trio Shines on 2025 AFCA All-America Teams

WACO, Tex. -- The American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) has announced its 2025 Division III All-America Teams, and three outstanding student-athletes from the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) earned recognition from the nation’s coaches.

Since 1945, the AFCA has selected its All-America teams exclusively through the votes of coaches, making the honor one of the most meaningful in college football. The five teams chosen today evolved from the original 11-player squad selected 80 years ago, and they remain the only All-America teams picked solely by those who know the players best.

The AFCA’s Division III All-America Selection Committee is composed of head coaches representing each conference across the association’s seven districts. One coach from each district serves as district chairman, and an additional head coach chairs the full committee. Coaches within each district first rank the top players in their region, leading into a final conference call among the district chairmen and the committee chair to determine the official All-America selections. Members named to the AFCA Coaches’ All-America First Team receive a commemorative plaque, while Second Team honorees receive a certificate.

Alma College senior running back Eddie Williams earned a spot on the First Team Offense following one of the most productive seasons in Division III. Williams finished second in the country with 152 points and tied-for-second with 25 total touchdowns. He ranked third nationally with 21 rushing touchdowns and 13.8 points per game, and fifth with 1,485 rushing yards. His 135.0 rushing yards per game placed him seventh in Division III, while his 163.55 all-purpose yards per game ranked 10th. Williams also earned recognition as the 2025 MIAA Most Valuable Offensive Player and closed his career as a four-time All-MIAA honoree.

On the defensive side, Hope College senior defensive lineman Liam Danitz was named to the First Team Defense after a dominant season in the trenches. Danitz finished second in Division III with 134 tackle yards and ranked third in the country with 15 sacks and 1.36 sacks per game. He posted 1.91 tackles for loss per game to place seventh nationally and recorded 21 total tackles for loss, tying for seventh among all Division III defenders. His exceptional performance earned him the title of 2025 MIAA Most Valuable Defensive Player, along with First Team All-MIAA honors.

Joining him on the First Team Defense is Adrian College junior defensive back Ethan Burrows, who emerged as one of the top ball-hawking defenders in the nation. Burrows led all of Division III with 0.80 interceptions per game while adding 46 tackles, including 31 solo stops. He contributed 6.5 tackles for loss and broke up five passes, anchoring the secondary in a standout season that also earned him First Team All-MIAA recognition.

Together, Williams, Danitz, and Burrows represent the excellence of MIAA football on the national stage, earning the highest honor awarded by the coaches who shape the game.
