No. 23/25 Alma Football Concludes Season Against No. 10/13 UW-Platteville

Platteville, WI - No. 23/25 Alma College Football battled through snowy conditions on Saturday in the second round of the NCAA Division III Football Tournament, but the Scots fell to No. 10/13 UW-Platteville by a final score of 24–7.

UW-Platteville opened the afternoon with a sustained drive, but the Scots' defense held strong, limiting the Pioneers to a short field goal. Alma turned the ball over on downs on its first possession, yet the defense responded immediately, forcing a three-and-out. At the end of the first quarter, Platteville held a 3–0 edge.

Early in the second, the Scots pieced together their best march of the day—an efficient 10-play, 46-yard drive capped by a two-yard rushing touchdown from Eddie Williams. The score gave Alma its first and only lead, 7–3. After a pair of exchanged punts, UW-Platteville found the end zone late in the half to reclaim the lead, carrying a 10–7 advantage into the locker room.

Alma worked to swing momentum out of the break, as the Scots' defense delivered a key fourth-down stop near midfield. The offense pushed back into Pioneer territory, but a 37-yard field goal attempt missed wide. Platteville capitalized on the opportunity, driving 80 yards in 12 plays to extend the lead to 17–7. The Pioneers continued to bottle up Alma's offense throughout the fourth quarter and added one final touchdown late to bring the game to its 24–7 final.

Quarterback Carter St. John finished 8-for-20 for 151 yards, while Eddie Williams led the ground game with 76 yards and a touchdown on 25 carries. Zach Poff paced the receiving corps with five receptions for 92 yards.

Defensively, Jett King recorded a game-high 10 tackles. Alma also tallied tackles-for-loss fromBrock BeaudrieJa'Martae HoganJack Anderson, and Parker Schuman.

The Scots close their 2025 season with an 8–3 record and now turn their attention toward the 2026 campaign.
