Calvin Captures Third-Consecutive MIAA Men's Swimming and Diving Crown 2/22/2025 9:14:59 PM Share: GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Calvin University secured its third-straight MIAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championship, capping off a dominant performance in the 2025 conference meet. The final night of competition saw record-setting swims and tightly contested races as teams fought for every point. Hope College’s Joseph Engle started the night strong with a win in the 1650 freestyle, touching in 16:07.72. Alma College’s Eli Mull took second (16:13.78), while Flying Dutchman Tyler Houpt finished third (16:19.45). Knight Charles Platt added another individual title to his resume, winning the 200 backstroke in 1:45.74. Hope’s Colin Kalkman placed second (1:48.87), and Calvin’s Jacob Ziegler finished third (1:52.32). In the 100 freestyle, Calvin’s David Bajwa shattered the league record, posting a time of 43.56 to break the previous mark of 43.80 set in 2021. Teammate Josh Seidelman finished second in 44.38, and Flying Dutchman Graham Eisenmann placed third in 44.99. Hope’s Christian Dunaitis claimed victory in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:01.22, edging out teammate Luke Newcomb (2:02.32). Knight Caleb Gemmen finished third (2:04.32). Calvin’s Tim Hays touched first in the 200 butterfly with a winning time of 1:49.26. Flying Dutchman Nick Suranyi finished second (1:52.62), while Everett Cox, also of Hope, placed third (1:53.23). On the diving board, Calvin’s Wil Goodpaster captured the one-meter title with a score of 478.35. Kalamazoo College’s Zander Ligman took second (467.95), while Albion College’s Jeremy Romero finished third (376.75). The meet concluded with another record-breaking relay, as Calvin’s team of David Bajwa, Vlad Molin, Josh Seidelman, and Charles Platt won the 400 freestyle relay in 2:57.54, breaking the conference record set in 2021.
