INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) wrapped up competition at the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships with strong individual performances and notable team finishes, highlighting a successful week on the national stage.
Women’s Recap
Hope College finished ninth in the team standings, led by a balanced effort across multiple events on the final day. The Flying Dutch were highlighted by a second-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay, touching in 3:20.17 to secure a podium spot and cap off a strong week of relay performances. Calvin University added a 22nd-place finish in the same event with a time of 3:29.90.
In the 100 freestyle, Hope was represented by four swimmers in the event. Fifth-year senior Greta Gidley led the group with a fifth-place finish in 50.05, earning First Team All-America honors. Senior Laurel Wasiniak followed closely with a 10th-place finish in 49.94, while senior Bella Turner tied-for-22nd in 50.94. Freshman Claudia Busse rounded out the Hope competitors with a 40th-place finish in 51.80.
The 1650 freestyle saw Calvin sophomore Zoe Poe deliver a strong distance performance, finishing 13th overall with a time of 17:10.02 to earn Second Team All-America recognition.
In the 200 backstroke, Hope freshman Makenzie Baldwin led MIAA swimmers with a 15th-place finish in 2:00.73. Calvin junior Emma Merkel finished 29th in 2:03.38, followed closely by Hope senior Katie Hermann in 30th with a time of 2:03.59.
The 200 breaststroke featured a tight finish between conference competitors, as Calvin junior Elise Bajwa placed 37th with a time of 2:23.28, just ahead of Hope senior Madi Remenschneider in 38th at 2:23.35.
On the boards, Hope’s divers competed in the three-meter event, where freshman Grace Dawson placed 20th with a score of 409.15, and junior Laura Zupancic finished 28th with a score of 372.45.
Calvin concluded the meet tied for 39th in the team standings, with contributions across distance, backstroke, breaststroke, and relay events.
Men’s Recap
Calvin finished 12th in the men’s team standings, leading the MIAA with a strong combination of individual and relay performances on the final day. Hope finished tied-for-26th, supported by key swims across sprint, backstroke, breaststroke, and relay events.
In the 100 freestyle, Calvin senior Charles Platt closed out his collegiate career with a sixth-place finish in 43.90, earning First Team All-America honors. Hope junior Graham Eisenmann also competed in the event, finishing 20th with a time of 44.53.
The 200 backstroke featured Calvin freshman Jackson Merkel, who placed 16th with a time of 1:49.25 to earn Second Team All-America recognition.
In the 200 breaststroke, Hope sophomore Josh Bordovsky finished 17th overall with a time of 2:01.38, narrowly missing a top-16 finish in a competitive field.
The 400 freestyle relay closed out the championships, with Hope finishing 10th in 2:58.37 and Calvin placing 16th in 3:01.73, as both teams delivered strong final swims to end the meet.
With the conclusion of the championships, the MIAA demonstrated its strength from top to bottom, recording a national championship, multiple podium finishes, and top-10 and top-15 team placements while showcasing depth across every discipline in Division III swimming and diving.
