MIAA Swimmers Earn National Recognition at NCAA DIII Women's Championships 3/25/2025 2:30:00 PM Share: GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) made a strong showing at the 2025 NCAA Division III Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships, held March 19-22 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, North Carolina. MIAA student-athletes delivered impressive performances throughout the four-day competition, earning multiple All-America honors and securing top team finishes. Hope College led the MIAA with a ninth-place team finish, accumulating 139 points. Calvin University followed in 12th place with 86 points, while Albion College finished 26th with 18.5 points. Hope’s standout performances included Greta Gidley’s First Team All-America honor in the 200 IM with a fourth-place finish (2:01.40) and Sara Kraus’s First Team All-America honor in the 200 backstroke with a fourth-place finish (1:59.22). Laurel Wasiniak earned Second Team All-America honors in both the 100 free (9th, 49.75) and 200 free (16th, 1:51.54). The Flying Dutch also excelled in relay events, with their 400 medley relay (8th, 3:44.44), 200 free relay (6th, 1:31.99), and 400 free relay (7th, 3:22.43) all earning First Team All-America honors. Other Hope competitors included Katie Hermann in both the 200 IM (30th, 2:06.32) and the 200 back (23rd, 2:02.89), Lauren Ryle in both the 50 free (tied-for-16th, 23.30) and the 100 breast (28th, 1:04.68), Bella Turner in both the 50 free (tied-for-22nd, 23.42) and the 100 free (21st, 50.90), and Emme D'Errico, who contributed to the 800 free relay's 12th-place finish (7:28.33). Calvin’s Maggie Farrell secured First Team All-America recognition in the 100 fly with a seventh-place finish (54.95), while the Knights’ 200 medley relay team (7th, 1:42.28) and 200 free relay (8th, 1:32.38) also claimed First Team All-America honors. Their 400 medley relay (10th, 3:45.13) and 400 free relay (10th, 3:24.83) each earned Second Team All-America status. Zoe Poe also delivered a strong performance, earning Second Team All-America in the 1650 free with a 16th-place finish (17:12.57). Additional Calvin competitors included Sydney Sonday in the 100 free (32nd, 51.31), Emma Merkel in both the 100 back (41st, 57.82) and the 200 back (21st, 2:02.41), Elise Bajwa in the 100 breast (21st, 1:03.65), and Meghan Bengelink as a contributor to the First Team All-American 200 free relay. Albion’s Hannah Fathman shined in the sprint events, earning First Team All-America in the 50 free with a seventh-place finish (23.11). Teammate Mattie Smith secured Second Team All-America honors in the 100 breast (10th, 1:02.96) and also competed in the 200 breast (21st, 2:20.20).
