MIAA Continues Strong Showing on Day Two of NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) continued its strong showing at the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships on day two, highlighted by a podium finish, a historic relay performance, and multiple All-America honors.

Women’s Recap
Hope College delivered one of the most memorable moments of the meet with a runner-up finish in the 200 freestyle relay. The Flying Dutch touched the wall in 1:31.44, securing second place while setting a new school record. The performance marked Hope’s highest finish in the event in 32 years and stood as one of the top relay swims in program history. Calvin University placed 20th in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:34.80.

Individually, senior Katie Hermann added to Hope’s success with a 14th-place finish in the 400 individual medley (4:28.88). In doing so, Hermann became the first Hope swimmer since 1994 to earn All-America honors in the event, a significant milestone for the program.

Calvin junior Emma Merkel represented the Knights in the 200 freestyle, placing 23rd with a time of 1:51.82.

Hope also saw strong representation in diving, as junior Laura Zupancic placed 18th on the one-meter board with a score of 389.50, while freshman Grace Dawson finished 26th (368.45).

Men’s Recap
Calvin senior Charles Platt led the MIAA men with a standout performance in the 200 freestyle, earning a third-place finish and First Team All-America honors with a time of 1:36.00. Platt’s podium finish marked one of the top individual performances for the conference at this year’s championships.

Hope sophomore Everett Cox also competed in the event, finishing 24th with a time of 1:38.94, while Calvin freshman Jackson Merkel followed closely in 25th (1:39.11), highlighting the depth of MIAA talent in the 200 freestyle field.

In the 100 butterfly, Hope junior Graham Eisenmann placed 26th with a time of 48.56.

Relay events rounded out the evening, with Hope finishing 17th in the 200 freestyle relay (1:21.25) and Calvin placing 23rd (1:24.06).

Through two days of competition, the MIAA has continued to build momentum on the national stage, combining podium finishes with historic achievements.
