MIAA Sends Trio to NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) will be represented by three student-athletes at the 2026 NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships, scheduled for March 13–14 at the Alliant Energy PowerHouse.

A total of 210 wrestlers will compete in the national championship. Qualifiers earned their spot by placing in the top three of their respective weight classes at one of seven NCAA regional tournaments held February 27–28 and March 1. All championship sessions will be streamed live on NCAA.com.

At 165 pounds, Aiden Smith of Adrian College enters the national tournament as one of the conference’s most accomplished competitors. The senior captured the 2026 NCAA Division III Central Regional title after posting a 4-0 record at the event. Smith is the 2026 MIAA Most Valuable Wrestler and a two-time recipient of the award, while also earning All-MIAA recognition twice during his career.

Smith will be joined in the 165-pound bracket by senior Peyton Brooks of Albion College. Brooks finished 3-1 in conference competition during the season and secured his place at nationals with a third-place finish at the Central Regional.

In the heavyweight division, Cayden Bell of Alma College qualified for the NCAA Championships after placing second at the regional meet. The freshman posted a 3-1 record in conference duals during his first collegiate season.

The trio of qualifiers will represent the MIAA on the national stage as they compete against the top wrestlers from across NCAA Division III in Cedar Rapids.
