GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) was well represented among the nation’s top baseball talent as ten student-athletes earned recognition on the 2026 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division III All-Region VII Teams, highlighted by The University of Olivet senior pitcher Bryan Carney being named Region VII Pitcher of the Year.
Selections were voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and coordinated by the ABCA NCAA Division III All-America and Coach of the Year Committee.
Carney headlined the conference’s honorees after delivering one of the most dominant pitching seasons in Division III baseball. The senior right-hander was previously selected as the 2026 MIAA Most Valuable Pitcher and became a two-time All-MIAA honoree. He finished the season with a 7-3 record and a 1.35 earned run average. Across 73.1 innings pitched, Carney surrendered only 13 runs — including just 11 earned — while striking out 122 batters and facing 288 hitters.
Carney’s selection to the First Team also keeps him eligible for consideration on the 2026 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division III All-America Team, which will be announced on the evening of Thursday, May 28, following the Opening Ceremony of the NCAA Division III World Series in Eastlake, Ohio.
Five MIAA student-athletes received Second Team recognition, showcasing the conference’s depth across both the infield and pitching staff.
Representing Alma College, junior first baseman Alex Kavalick added another honor to an already decorated season after being selected as the 2026 MIAA Most Valuable Position Player and earning All-MIAA First Team accolades. Kavalick started 41-of-42 contests and compiled a .385 batting average with a 1.125 OPS, totaling 65 hits, 17 doubles, seven home runs and 56 RBIs. He also excelled defensively with 206 putouts and a .982 fielding percentage.
Kalamazoo College senior first baseman Ryar Rinehart secured his third career All-MIAA recognition and added All-Region honors after helping guide the Hornets to the NCAA Baseball Regional Championship game. Rinehart started all 46 games and posted a .330 average with 12 home runs and 70 RBIs while recording a .991 fielding percentage.
Adrian College junior third baseman Rolando Jimenez was recognized following a season that helped power the Bulldogs to the MIAA regular-season championship, MIAA Tournament title, NCAA Regional crown and NCAA Super Regional championship. Entering the NCAA finals, Jimenez carried a .369 batting average with 65 hits, 42 RBIs and 13 stolen bases while anchoring the infield with a .968 fielding percentage.
Kalamazoo senior outfielder Robert Newland also landed on the Second Team after a dynamic season at the plate and on the bases. Newland batted .386 with 73 hits, 61 runs scored and eight home runs while adding 46 stolen bases and a .464 on-base percentage.
Rounding out the Second Team selections was Adrian junior pitcher Ambrose Horwath. Entering the NCAA finals, Horwath owned a 10-1 record and a 2.55 ERA across 74 innings while limiting opponents to a .259 batting average.
Four additional MIAA student-athletes earned Third Team distinction.
Adrian junior catcher Gabe Jones was selected after contributing both offensively and defensively for the Bulldogs. Entering NCAA competition, Jones hit .324 with 20 doubles, 47 RBIs and a .918 OPS while recording 238 putouts without committing an error.
Kalamazoo junior shortstop Cade Preissing added All-Region recognition after producing a .351 average with 68 hits, 16 doubles and 16 stolen bases while contributing 97 assists in the field.
Adrian junior pitcher Landon Kozlowski earned Third Team honors with a 2.38 ERA and 1.15 WHIP entering the NCAA finals. Across 56.2 innings, Kozlowski limited opposing hitters to a .214 batting average.
Kalamazoo sophomore pitcher Carson Orvis completed the conference’s list of honorees after finishing with a 6-1 record, a 3.19 ERA and 79 strikeouts over 73.1 innings pitched.
The ABCA All-America Team was first introduced in 1949 and now spans nine divisions across collegiate and high school baseball. Additional postseason honors remain ahead, with the ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove teams scheduled for release on June 17 and the 2026 ABCA NCAA Division III Region All-Defensive teams set to be announced on June 18.
