The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) was well represented on this week’s D3football.com Team of the Week, as Hope College senior linebacker Colton Schreur and Kalamazoo College freshman cornerback Aidan Paquin were both recognized for their standout defensive performances in Week 8.
Schreur Leads Hope’s Defensive Charge in Statement Win
Schreur delivered a commanding performance in the Flying Dutchmen’s thrilling 19-17 victory over No. 25 Adrian College. Schreur recorded a season-high 10 tackles, including five solo stops, and added half a tackle for loss along with a key pass breakup.
His leadership anchored a Hope defense that completely shut down the Bulldogs in the second half, holding them scoreless and limiting Adrian to just 217 total yards of offense. Schreur’s defining moment came late in the game: with Adrian threatening to extend its one-point lead, he provided tight solo coverage on a quarterback-turned-receiver during a critical fourth-down stop at the Hope 9-yard line, thwarting a halfback pass attempt and preserving Hope’s comeback momentum.
Paquin Shines for Kalamazoo in Rally Win Over Albion
Paquin played well beyond his years in the Hornets’ 30-26 rally win against Albion College. Paquin filled the stat sheet with 14 total tackles, 10 of them solo, and was a constant presence in the secondary with four pass breakups. He also forced a key fumble that swung momentum in Kalamazoo’s favor during the second half.
Paquin’s efforts helped fuel the Hornets’ comeback victory, showcasing both his toughness in run support and his awareness in coverage. His performance marked one of the top defensive outings in the MIAA this season and highlighted a bright future for the first-year defensive back.
Defensive Excellence Across the MIAA
Both Schreur and Paquin embodied the defensive intensity that has defined MIAA football this fall. Their inclusion on the D3football.com Team of the Week underscores the depth of talent in the conference and the growing national recognition for MIAA programs.
