Men's Soccer 12/17/2025 11:00:00 AM Calvin's Matt Torrell Named College Sports Communicators First Team Academic All-American -- Story provided by Calvin University Athletics -- 2025 CSC Men's Soccer Academic All-America List Calvin University junior midfielder Matt Torrell has been named a College Sports Communicators First Team Academic All-American ®. A midfielder, Torrell is receiving CSC Academic All-America ® honors for the first time in his collegiate career. He is the 11th individual in Calvin men's soccer history to be named a CSC Academic All-American ® and it marks the 16th time that a Calvin men's soccer player has received the honor. Torrell is a sports management major. He arrived at Calvin last January after transferring from Liberty University and earned a spot on the Calvin Dean's List during the 2025 spring semester. He has also made a big impact on the soccer pitch, amassing 38 points on the strength of 15 goals and eight assists. He was 3-for-3 on penalty kick opportunities and netted two game-winning goals. He was MIAA Offensive Player of the Week once this fall. He was later named the MIAA's Most Valuable Player and landed a spot on the All-MIAA First Team. Earlier this month he was named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Region First Team and shortly after, he was named a United Soccer Coaches Third Team All-American. Torrell was part of a Calvin men's soccer team that finished 17-5-1 overall in 2025 with the Knights receiving votes in the final United Soccer Coaches Division III Top 25 poll. Calvin captured its fourth straight MIAA Tournament title and advanced to the NCAA III Tournament for the fifth straight year including the 12th time in the last 14.
