Calvin's Matt Torrell Named United Soccer Coaches Division III All-American

Calvin junior midfielder Matt Torrell has been named a United Soccer Coaches Division III All-American.

In his first year as a Calvin Knight, the midfielder has been named a United Soccer Coaches Third Team Division III All-American.

Torrell continues the rich tradition of Calvin men's soccer players. He is the 30th individual in Calvin men's soccer history to earn All-America accolades.

Torrell had a standout first year of competition with the Calvin men's soccer team. He arrived at Calvin last January after transferring from Liberty University and proceeded to make an instant impact. Torrell scored 15 goals and netted eight assist for a total of 38 points to lead the Knights in scoring. He is currently ranked 18th nationally in points, 26th in goals and 46th in assists.

Torrell was named the MIAA's Most Valuable Player this fall and landed a spot on the All-MIAA First Team. He was named MIAA Offensive Player of the Week once. He was a perfect 3-for-3 on penalty kick tries and recorded a pair of game-winning goals. Earlier this week, he was named to the United Soccer Coaches Division III All-Region VIII First Team.
