MIAA Leaders Highlight United Soccer Coaches Men's All-Region Teams

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Seven men’s soccer student-athletes from the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) earned United Soccer Coaches All-Region VIII recognition, representing Albion College and Calvin University across the First, Second, Third, and Fourth Teams. Their performances throughout the 2025 season showcased the conference’s competitive depth and standout talent.

FIRST TEAM

Albion sophomore midfielder Esteban Mercado earned a spot on the All-Region First Team. A two-time All-MIAA honoree, Mercado started all 17 games for the Britons and led the team with 11 goals, 25 points, and six game-winning goals. He also added three assists while recording a .306 shooting percentage and a .528 shots on goal percentage.

Joining Mercado on the First Team was Calvin junior midfielder Matt Torrell, the 2025 MIAA Most Valuable Player and an All-MIAA First Team selection. In his first season with the Knights after transferring from Liberty University, Torrell played in all 22 games and led Calvin with 15 goals, eight assists, 38 points, and 34 shots on goal.

SECOND TEAM

Calvin sophomore defender Jake Ziolo secured his second career All-MIAA honor while anchoring the Knights’ defensive unit. Starting all 22 games, Ziolo helped limit opponents to just 24 goals and led the team with 1,875 minutes played. He also contributed on the offensive end with three goals, five assists, and three game-winning strikes.

Albion freshman forward Robin Ruigendijk claimed a spot on the Second Team after a remarkable debut season. The 2025 MIAA Freshman of the Year and All-MIAA First Team honoree started every game for the Britons, leading the team with nine assists. He also added six goals, 21 points, and two game-winning goals.

THIRD TEAM

Albion junior defender Lucas Anderson represented the MIAA on the All-Region Third Team. A 2025 All-MIAA First Team honoree, Anderson started all 17 games and helped Albion limit opponents to just 20 goals while logging 1,399 minutes on the field.

Calvin also added a Third Team honoree in junior midfielder Zac Brooks. A transfer from Cedarville University, Brooks appeared in all 22 games and totaled six goals, five assists, 17 points, and two game-winning goals for the Knights.

FOURTH TEAM

Rounding out the MIAA’s All-Region selections was Calvin freshman forward Will Lanham, named to the Fourth Team. A 2025 Second Team All-MIAA performer, Lanham played in all 22 games and delivered nine goals, 18 points, a .310 shooting percentage, a .655 shots on goal percentage, and three game-winning goals.

The seven All-Region honorees reflect another strong season for MIAA men’s soccer, with each student-athlete contributing significantly to their teams and the conference’s competitive success.
