Athlete of the Week - March 10, 2025 3/10/2025 4:00:00 PM Share: FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. -- The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) announced the Athlete of the Week awards for the week of March 3-9. The MIAA Athlete of the Week awards are nominated by head coaches and released each Monday at 4:00 p.m. (unless a federal holiday). MIAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week - Carson Orvis, Kalamazoo College Freshman pitcher Carson Orvis helped the Hornets go 4-0 on the weekend. Orvis pitched a complete seven-inning game against Illinois Tech, allowing just four hits in facing 24 batters. In the 10-0 Kalamazoo victory, Orvis totaled nine strikeouts and zero walks. MIAA Baseball Position Player of the Week - Caleb Moore, Kalamazoo College Sophomore catcher Caleb Moore assisted the Hornets to a 4-0 weekend with two games against Elmhurst and two versus Illinois Tech. Moore slashed a .647/1.118/.667 with 11 hits and 17 at bats. He also totaled eight runs, 11 runs batted in, two doubles, two home runs, and four stolen bases. In catching all four contests, Moore finished the weekend with a perfect fielding percentage which included 36 putouts and four assists. MIAA Men's Golf Athlete of the Week - Joe Renfer, Adrian College Senior Joe Renfer participated in the Pfeiffer Invitational in Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina, last week. Renfer shot 78-77 (155) to finish seventh in a field of 102 golfers. MIAA Women's Golf Athlete of the Week - Ainslee Hewitt, Adrian College Sophomore Ainslee Hewitt competed at the Pfeiffer Invitational over spring break in Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina. Hewitt shot 83-82 (165) to finish thirteenth overall in a field of 71 golfers. MIAA Men's Lacrosse Offensive Athlete of the Week - MJ Humphreys, Alma College Senior midfielder MJ Humphreys led the Scots to a 10-8 edge over Heidelberg, followed by a 15-4 win against Marian. Humphreys tied the program record for most goals in a game with nine against Marian, while also contributing two assists. He additionally totaled four goals versus Heidelberg and a ground ball in each contest. MIAA Women's Lacrosse Offensive Athlete of the Week - Zoe Weber, Adrian College Senior Zoe Weber led the offensive attack for the Bulldogs during a 2-0 week, with a 14-4 win at Anderson and an 18-2 victory at Spalding. Weber totaled eight goals and three assists with a shots on goal percentage of .929. She also contributed two ground balls, a caused turnover, and a draw control. MIAA Men's Lacrosse Defensive Athlete of the Week - Cameron Reed, Adrian College Senior defender Cameron Reed helped Adrian to a 2-1 week, including a 25-5 win at Spalding and an 18-10 victory over Otterbein. In addition to holding his three matchups to a combined four points, Reed caused nine turnovers and had 10 ground balls. He played an integral role in the clear helping the Bulldogs clear the ball at a near perfect 98%. Reed also added two goals and one assist on the offensive end. MIAA Women's Lacrosse Defensive Athlete of the Week - Abby Malone, Adrian College Freshman midfielder Abby Malone helped Adrian to a 14-4 win at Anderson, followed by an 18-2 victory at Spalding over spring break. Malone was stellar in the defensive end with eight caused turnovers and 11 ground balls in the two games. In addition to her efforts on the defensive end, Malone added six goals, three assists, and two draw controls. MIAA Men's Lacrosse Specialist Athlete of the Week - Dylan Smith, Alma College Senior faceoff midfielder Dylan Smith assisted Alma to a 10-8 edge over Heidelberg, followed by a 15-4 win against Marian. Smith went 22-of-35 (.629) at the X, while also totaling four goals and 15 ground balls. MIAA Women's Lacrosse Specialist Athlete of the Week - Emma Zmudzinski, Saint Mary's College Senior goalie Emma Zmudzinski was in the net for the Belles at Indiana Tech on Thursday. Zmudzinski had a career high of 17 saves and held their opponents to a 2-of-13 completion on eight-meter shots. MIAA Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week - Alex Fleming, Kalamazoo College Sophomore Alex Fleming went 4-0 on the weekend, helping Kalamazoo to a 6-1 victory over Oberlin and a 7-0 sweep against Illinois Tech. At No. 1 doubles, Fleming partnered with Cameron Crosby for a 6-3 win versus Oberlin's Brady Huggett and Shawn Lisann. Fleming went on to defeat his No. 2 singles opponent Enrique Margain, 6-2, 6-4. Fleming and Crosby earned their second No. 1 doubles win of the weekend against Illinois Tech's Alexander Feher and Avneet Singh (6-3). At No. 2 singles, Fleming nearly swept Feher with a 6-0, 6-1 victory. MIAA Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week - Elina Locane, Trine University Junior Elina Locane went undefeated at No. 1 singles and won two matches at No. 1 doubles over spring break. Locane partnered with Emma Beehler for a 6-3 victory over Concordia-Moorhead's Anna Hacker and Emma Farder. Locane then defeated Hacker 6-2, 6-2 in their singles match. Against Concordia-Wisconsin, Locane and Beehler nearly swept Maddie Brashaw and Peyton Morgan, 6-1. Locane earned a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Morgan at No. 1 singles. A super tiebreaker win by Locane (4-6, 6-3, 12-10) against Natalie Kaiser earned the Thunder a 4-3 edge over Wartburg. In the final match of the trip, Locane earned a 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 win against Allegheny's Emiliia Grydnieva. MIAA Softball Pitcher of the Week - Macee Schang, Adrian College Senior pitcher Macee Schang went 4-1 in appearances over spring break in Florida. In 29 innings pitched, Schang totaled 39 strikeouts with an earned-run average of 0.56. MIAA Softball Position Player of the Week - Maggie Leveille, Adrian College Senior catcher Maggie Leveille helped the Bulldogs to a 6-2 record over spring break. Leveille slashed a .500/1.077/.552 in 26 at bats. She totaled nine runs, 13 hits, 12 runs batted in, six doubles, three home runs, and a stolen base. Leveille also finished the week with a perfect fielding percentage which included 30 putouts and four assists.
