Athlete of the Week - March 17, 2025

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. -- The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) announced the Athlete of the Week awards for the week of March 10-16.

The MIAA Athlete of the Week awards are nominated by head coaches and released each Monday at 4:00 p.m. (unless a federal holiday).

MIAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week - Mason Belmore, Hope College
Senior pitcher Mason Belmore recorded as second win of the year as Hope knocked off nationally-ranked Rhodes (No. 20) with a 5-4 victory on Friday evening. Belmore pitched seven innings while striking out five and walking two.

MIAA Baseball Position Player of the Week - Ryker Mazey, Albion College
Senior infielder Ryker Mazey led Albion to a 2-1 record over the week, including a 3-2 edge at Bluffton and a 17-15 victory at Franklin. Mazey concluded the week with a batting average of .563 (9-of-16), along with four runs, five runs batted in, three doubles, a home run, a stolen base, and a perfect fielding percentage on 13 total chances.

MIAA Men's Lacrosse Offensive Athlete of the Week - Michael Jonas, Adrian College
In leading Adrian to a 23-7 victory, senior attacker Michael Jonas had a huge performance quarterbacking an explosive offensive effort in the Bulldogs lone game against Dubuque. Jonas had five goals and four assists while shooting an outstanding 71%. He led the offense to their biggest output of the season so far, scoring 23 goals with an offensive efficiency of 42%. Jonas currently leads the MIAA with 49 points (6.13 per game) and is second in the league in both goals (29) and assists (20).

MIAA Women's Lacrosse Offensive Athlete of the Week - Mariana Miller, Adrian College
Senior midfielder Mariana Miller led the Bulldogs offensively on a 2-0 road trip through Wisconsin, including a 17-2 victory at Milwaukee School of Engineering and a 17-6 win at Concordia-Wisconsin. Miller totaled nine goals and five assists over the week, while finishing with a shots on goal percentage of .938 (15-of-16). She also added six ground balls, three caused turnovers, and a draw control. Miller is currently in the MIAA's top three with 22 goals (3.67 per game) and 31 points (5.17 per game).

MIAA Men's Lacrosse Defensive Athlete of the Week - Zachary Norris, Trine University
Senior defender/long-stick midfielder Zachary Norris was a defensive stalwart for the Thunder in the victories against Carroll (15-3) and Milwaukee School of Engineering (9-3). Against Carroll, Norris held their leading scorer at the midfield to zero points and one shot while also having three caused turnovers and four ground balls. He also chipped in offensively by adding a goal against the 4-1 Pioneers. In the matchup vs. MSOE, Norris contributed five ground balls and two caused turnovers.

MIAA Women's Lacrosse Defensive Athlete of the Week - Bella Norton, Adrian College
Freshman goalkeeper Bella Norton continued her standout start to her freshman season in net for the Bulldogs with victories on the road this week against Milwaukee School of Engineering (17-2) and Concordia-Wisconsin (17-6). Norton totaled 14 saves and 14 ground balls in the two games, while allowing only eight goals for a .636 save percentage. She currently leads the conference with a goals-against average of 4.48 and a .525 save percentage.

MIAA Men's Lacrosse Specialist Athlete of the Week - Sean Kohloff, Trine University
Junior faceoff midfielder Sean Kohloff was a huge catalyst to a 2-0 week with wins against Carroll (15-3) and Milwaukee School of Engineering (9-3). On Wednesday, he went 15-of-17 at the faceoff X with 12 groundballs. His efforts tilted the time of possession and allowed the Thunder to pull away from their opponents. On Saturday, Kohloff won seven key faceoffs against MSOE. His efforts in the third quarter allowed Trine to break open a one-goal game at halftime and create separation to help secure the win. Kohloff is currently first in the conference in faceoff win percentage (.739 | 65-of-88) and ranked in the top 20 nationally.

MIAA Women's Lacrosse Specialist Athlete of the Week - Madeline Turcotte, Adrian College
Sophomore draw specialist Madeline Turcotte collected 12 draw controls in the victories for the Bulldogs this week at Milwaukee School of Engineering and at Concordia-Wisconsin. She also added four goals, 10 assists, six ground balls, and four caused turnovers. Turcotte currently leads the MIAA with 28 assists (4.0 per game), 46 points (6.57 per game), and 51 draw controls (7.29 per game).

MIAA Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week - Alex Jonas, The University of Olivet
Sophomore Alex Jonas assisted the Comets to a 1-1 record over the week, including a 6-1 victory at Berea (Ky.) on Wednesday. Jonas partnered with Lucas Anderson at No. 1 doubles for a 6-3 win against Berea's Nathan Jiang and Bogdan Petric. At No. 2 singles, Jonas swept Jiang 6-0, 6-0.

MIAA Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week - Amelia Girard, The University of Olivet
Freshman Amelia Girard helped Olivet to a 1-1 record over the week which included a 7-0 sweep at Berea (Ky.). Girard teamed up with Rylee Lewis at the top doubles flight for a 6-0 sweep against Berea's Sophie Clapp and Odrielle Uwimana. Girard was also called on to play No. 1 singles due to a teammate's sickness. She stepped up to the task with a 6-4, 6-3 edge over Clapp.

MIAA Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week - Lucas Guidone, Hope College
Senior Lucas Guidone opened the outdoor season at the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge. Guidone was the runner-up in the 800m run with a time of 1:54.74. His performance is currently ranked sixth in the nation.

MIAA Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week - Catherine Leahy, Hope College
Junior Catherine Leahy competed at the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge over the weekend. Leahy's time of 56.59 in the 400m dash currently sits at second in the country, while her time of 25.60 in the 200m dash is seventh in Division III. She also participated in both the 4x100m relay (49.32) and the 4x400m relay (4:09.82) which are ranked 12th and 16th in the nation, respectively.

MIAA Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week - Aidan Kyle, Hope College
Senior Aidan Kyle participated in the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge over the weekend. His throw of 55.31m in the javelin is currently ranked 12th in Division III.

MIAA Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week - Bridget Crombie, Hope College
Sophomore Bridget Crombie opened the outdoor season at the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge over the weekend. Crombie's leap of 1.50m in the high jump landed her 24th in the country. She also threw 8.71m in the shot put.

MIAA Softball Position Player of the Week - Carly Dole, Calvin University
Junior infielder Carly Dole led the Knights offensively to a 6-4 spring break trip. In 31 at bats, Dole had a .419 batting average and a .677 slugging percentage, including 14 runs, six runs batted in, four doubles, two triples, and four stolen bases. During the week, she produced five multi-hit and multi-run games. Dole also contributed 15 putouts. Dole currently leads the conference with 18 runs, six doubles, and two triples. She is also in the league's top five with 18 hits, and a .683 slugging percentage.

MIAA Softball Pitcher of the Week - Emma Ludema, Calvin University
In five starts over Calvin's spring break trip, junior pitcher Emma Ludema went 4-1 at the plate. In 23.1 innings pitched, she concluded the week with a 2.40 earned-run average and totaled 16 strikeouts. Her wins included a 6-2 victory over Lakeland, a 12-3 win against Ohio Wesleyan, a 5-2 victory versus Carthage, and an 8-0 shutout vs. Coe. Ludema is currently in the league's top five with five wins, seven starts, and two shutouts.
