Athlete of the Week - March 31, 2025 3/31/2025 4:00:00 PM Share: FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. -- The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) announced the Athlete of the Week awards for the week of March 24-30. The MIAA Athlete of the Week awards are nominated by head coaches and released each Monday at 4:00 p.m. (unless a federal holiday). MIAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week - Nolan Coil, Calvin University Senior pitcher Nolan Coil pitched a seven-inning complete-game shutout in the 5-0 victory against Olivet on Thursday. In facing 24 batters and finishing with a 0.00 earned-run average, Coil struck out six while only allowing three hits and a walk. Coil is currently in the conference's top five with an ERA of 3.18, three wins, one loss, 28.1 innings pitched, only 10 earned runs, 32 strikeouts, and 109 batters faced. MIAA Baseball Position Player of the Week - Jake Burns, Adrian College Freshman utility player Jake Burns led the Bulldogs to a 2-2 record over the week. In the last four contests, Burns slashed a .467/.733/.556. In 15 at bats, he totaled four doubles, four runs batted in, and three runs scored on seven hits. Burns also contributed 34 putouts and one assist. He currently ranks top five in the conference with seven doubles, a slugging percentage of .684, seven hits by pitch, and an on-base percentage of .560. MIAA Men's Lacrosse Offensive Athlete of the Week - Michael Jonas, Adrian College Senior attacker Michael Jonas tallied 11 points on eight goals and three assists in Adrian's only game this week as they faced Illinois Wesleyan. Jonas played a part in 61% of the Bulldogs' 18 goals. He shot an outstanding 47% on the day while quarterbacking the offense on Saturday. Jonas currently leads the MIAA with 44 goals and 6.36 points per game. MIAA Women's Lacrosse Offensive Athlete of the Week - Audrey Booher, Calvin University Junior attacker Audrey Booher assisted Calvin to a 1-1 record over the week, including an 18-2 victory at Alma. Booher totaled 12 points in the last two contests, thanks to nine goals and three assists. She also had a caused turnover in each game and one ground ball at Carthage. Booher in currently in the MIAA's top five with 24 goals and 37 points. MIAA Men's Lacrosse Defensive Athlete of the Week - Danny Kelly, Trine University Junior defender Danny Kelly was dominant on the defensive end in a 2-0 week, including an 18-2 win at Anderson and a 14-7 victory over Wittenberg. In the midweek win vs. Anderson, Kelly was dominant in his two quarters played, tallying four groundballs and two caused turnovers while holding his matchup to zero points and no shots. In the game against Wittenberg, Kellywas an absolute force all over the field on defense, the ride, and transition. He had four groundballs and three caused turnovers while holding his matchup to zero points. His clutch play helped the Thunder's opponents to a first-half shutout that allowed the game to be put out of reach. MIAA Women's Lacrosse Defensive Athlete of the Week - Mya Reyes, Adrian College Junior defender Mya Reyes led the Bulldogs to a 24-2 victory against Mount St. Joseph on Saturday. Reyes totaled three ground balls and caused three turnovers in Adrian's lone contest of the week. MIAA Men's Lacrosse Specialist of the Week - Nate Hanson, Calvin University Junior faceoff midfielder Nate Hanson helped the Knights to a 1-1 record (W, 22-2 at Alma; L, 9-8 at North Central) with a great week at the faceoff X. Hanson went 77% on the week in Calvin's two games, including the first conference game where he went 18-of-20. He also scored a goal on Saturday off of a faceoff win late in the game to bring the score within one during the Knights' comeback effort. Hanson currently leads the conference with 136 faceoffs won. He is also in the league's top three with 54 ground balls. MIAA Women's Lacrosse Specialist of the Week - Meghan Chang, Calvin University Senior midfielder Meghan Chang helped the Knights to a 1-1 record over the week, including an 18-2 win at Alma. Chang had 13 draw controls, six points (three goals and three assists), and one ground ball. Additionally, she finished the week with a perfect shooting percentage. Chang is currently ranked second in the league with 18 caused turnovers and 51 draw controls. MIAA Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week - Michael Mascarin, Adrian College Sophomore Michael Mascarin finished the week 4-2 at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles, helping Adrian to a 2-1 record over the last three matches. Against Olivet, Mascarin partnered with Luke Holowinski for a 6-1 victory over Lucas Anderson and Alex Jonas. Mascarin went on to defeat Anderson 6-1, 6-2 in singles. In the second conference match of the season, Mascarin and Holowinski earned a 6-2 win against Albion's Jacob Doyle and Josh Doyle. Mascarin closed out the week with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep versus Briton Brendan Morrison. MIAA Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week - Claire Earley, Adrian College Junior Claire Earley went 2-1 at No. 1 doubles and 3-0 at No. 2 singles in the last three matches, helping the Bulldogs to a 2-1 record over the week. In the conference opener, Earley and partner Hye Jin Elliot won their doubles match 6-1 against Olivet's Amelia Girard and Rylee Lewis. Earley notched a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Lewis later in the day. Although Adrian suffered a 4-3 loss at Spring Arbor, Earley won her singles match against Isabel Abraham in a super tiebreaker (6-4, 3-6, 10-7). Earley and Elliot earned their second doubles win of the week against Albion's Abbie Hubbard and Savannah McDonald (6-1). In the final matchup of the week, Earley faced Briton Josie Dunn and extended her winning record at No. 2 singles with a 6-0, 6-2 victory. MIAA Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week - Jackson Hayward, Adrian College Freshman Jackson Hayward opened his outdoor season in an incredible fashion. Running in his first meet since December after an injury, he opened up his 100m dash with a wind-aided 10.80; a large jump and personal record for him, regardless of the wind. In the 200m dash, Hayward dropped an even larger personal best with a 21.51 wind legal, breaking his previous personal best of 22.16 and moving into 12th in the nation. This mark, even being his first outdoor time, moves him into Adrian program history as the fourth-fastest time for the school. MIAA Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week - Sophie Bull, Calvin University Junior Sophie Bull competed at the WashU Distance Carnival over the weekend. Bull shattered the 15-year old school record in the 3000m steeplechase by more than five seconds. Her performance of 10:24.32 won the event and currently ranks her top in the nation with a four-second lead against her nearest competitor. Bull's previous personal best was 10:31.82, which she ran last year at the outdoor national championships to finished fifth overall. MIAA Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week - Owen Fremeau, The University of Olivet Sophomore Owen Fremeau won three events at the Alma-Albion-Olivet Triangular meet. Fremeau set outdoor school records in both the shot put (15.85m) and the hammer throw (54.61m). He also finished the discus with a mark of 45.72m. Nationally, Fremeau is currently ranked seventh in the shot put, No. 15 in the hammer, and 31st in the discus. MIAA Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week - Karen Bekhet, Calvin University Junior Karen Bekhet participated at the Emory Thrills in the Hills invite in Atlanta, Georgia. Bekhet won the discus throw with a mark of 40.55m. That performance ranks her first in the conference by almost 4m and 28th in the country. Bekhet also competed in the shot put and finished with a toss of 11.35m. MIAA Softball Pitcher of the Week - Alexis Michon, Trine University Senior pitcher Alexis Michon was 1-0 on the week with a no-hitter (7-0) against Spalding (Ky.). Michon totaled 15 strikeouts with no walks. Michon currently leads the conference with nine wins, an earned-run average of 1.25, and five shutouts. MIAA Softball Position Player of the Week - Brenna Fisher, Kalamazoo College Senior outfielder Brenna Fisher led the Hornets to a 4-2 record over the week. Fisher hit .550 with 22 plate appearances and totaled 11 hits, eight runs, seven stolen bases on seven attempts, two runs batted in, and nine putouts. Fisher leads the conference with 15 stolen bases on 16 attempts. She is also currently in the league's top five with a batting average of .447, 19 runs, and a .527 on-base percentage.
