OLIVET, Mich. – Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Ryan Shockey has named Nito Ramos to be the next director of golf at The University of Olivet (UOlivet). Ramos will oversee all functions of the men's and women's golf programs.
"We are thrilled to welcome Nito be part of the Comet athletic staff as our new director of golf," said Shockey. "With 30 years of experience in education and nearly a decade of coaching golf, he has a unique blend of leadership, mentorship and knowledge of the game of golf. Nito's ties to the University make this a meaningful hire, as he knows what makes Olivet special. I am confident Nito will elevate our golf programs and make an impact on the student-athletes both on and off the course."
Before coming to UOlivet, Ramos was the head men's and women's golf coach at Siena Heights University (SHU). While there for the last seven months, he oversaw all operations of the golf program.
A 1995 graduate with a degree in elementary education from SHU, Ramos retired in January after 30 years as an educator in Lenawee County. He started his teaching career as a third-grade teacher at Adrian Public Schools from 1995-98. Ramos then spent the next 27 years in the Clinton Community Schools (CCS) from 1999-2025, serving 23 years as a fifth-grade teacher and the final four years as part of the Project Lead The Way department. While part of the CCS, he was the head coach for various athletic teams, including middle school football and boys' basketball, junior varsity boys' and girls' basketball, softball and baseball, and varsity girls' basketball.
Most recently, Ramos served as the boys' varsity golf coach for nine years (2016-24) and varsity girls' golf coach for four years (2021-24). As the boys' coach, he led Clinton to four straight trips to the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) team finals and won five league titles. Ramos began the girls' golf program, and the team made two straight trips to the MHSAA team finals and captured two league titles. He was named the regional coach of the year four times, twice for girls' golf, once for boys' golf and once for girls' basketball.
"I am super excited about becoming the director of golf at Olivet," said Ramos. "I want to thank Ryan Shockey and the rest of the search committee for giving me this opportunity. There is a rich history of the Comet men's and women's golf programs, and I am looking forward to continuing that legacy."
A native of Marshall, Ramos currently lives in Adrian. He and his wife, Leanne, have a son, Garrett, and two daughters, Breanna and Kyleigh. Nito's father, John, served as UOlivet's head softball coach for two seasons from 1984-85 before returning to Olivet to be an assistant baseball coach in the early 2000s before being the interim head coach for the 2006 season. Breanna and Kyleigh are current students at UOlivet.
