Running Toward Excellence: MIAA Men’s Cross Country Earns USTFCCCA Academic Honors

NEW ORLEANS, La. -- The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) was well represented among the 2025 NCAA Division III Men’s Cross Country All-Academic selections, as nine student-athletes earned individual honors and six league programs were recognized as All-Academic Teams by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Individual All-Academic Athletes

To qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic distinction, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.30 on a 4.0 scale and finish in the top 25 percent of their respective NCAA regional championship meet.

The following MIAA men’s cross country student-athletes earned All-Academic honors for the 2025 season:

  • Ryan Sarkett, Calvin University – Chemical Engineering

  • Logan Begeman, Hope College – Chemistry

  • Lucas Guidone, Hope College – Chemistry

  • Jonathan Harlow, Hope College – Engineering

  • Cooper Jacobsen, Hope College – Kinesiology

  • Elias Kretchmar, Hope College – Biology

  • Tyler Hartleroad, Trine University – Computer Engineering

  • Ryan Hoopingarner, Trine University – Computer Science and Information Technology

  • Nicholas Spielman, Trine University – Mechanical Engineering


All-Academic Teams

USTFCCCA All-Academic Team honors are awarded to programs that achieve a cumulative team GPA of 3.10 or higher on a 4.0 scale, including the most recent grading period, among other qualifying criteria.

Six MIAA men’s cross country programs earned All-Academic Team recognition for the 2025 season:

  • Alma College – 3.52

  • Calvin University – 3.70

  • Hope College – 3.47

  • Kalamazoo College – 3.44

  • The University of Olivet – 3.34

  • Trine University – 3.51

The MIAA student-athletes and programs recognized by the USTFCCCA exemplify the conference’s commitment to excellence in both competition and the classroom.
