Records Fall as Calvin Reigns Again at MIAA Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championship Presented by Collegiate Credit Union

ANGOLA, Ind. -- Calvin University claimed the 2026 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championship Presented by Collegiate Credit Union with 220 points, securing its second-straight title and fourth meet championship in program history. The 2026 edition marked a historic shift for the conference, as combined events were added for the first time and the main championship expanded to a two-day meet. The pentathlon was contested February 16–17 at Alma College, while the remainder of the championships took place February 27–28 at Trine University. The season also marked the first year of varsity track and field for Kalamazoo College.

Hope College freshman Jaidyn Klimp became the inaugural pentathlon champion with 3,317 points. Alma fifth-year senior Helena Snyder finished second (3,211), and Calvin sophomore Ella Easterling placed third (3,011).

Adrian College sophomore Alysia Townsend set an MIAA meet record in the long jump with a winning leap of 5.58m, surpassing the 2022 record of 5.57m. Trine freshman Jill Taylor was second (5.56m), followed by senior teammate Emma Forker (5.50m).

Calvin sophomore Lily Burns captured the weight throw title with a toss of 15.73m. Albion College junior Morgan Hurd finished second at 15.71m, and sophomore Kenzie Gray of The University of Olivet placed third at 14.61m.

Calvin freshman Caralee Schipper won the high jump by clearing 1.62m, just shy of the meet record of 1.63m. Adrian's Townsend placed second on attempts at the same height, while Hope senior Natalie Christnagel finished third (1.59m).

Calvin opened the track events with a victory in the distance medley relay. Freshmen Emma Wierenga and Lola Davey, sophomore Kennedi Wood, and junior Hailey Erickson combined for a time of 12:24.81. Hope placed second (12:30.71) with Maddie VandeBunte, Eliana Kotsonis, Miranda Sawvel, and Mary England, while Kalamazoo finished third (12:36.69) with Allison Mayer, Gwyneth Dunaway, Zenaida Sackett, and Ava King.

Calvin senior Sophie Bull won the 5,000m run in 17:44.29, followed by teammate Alexis Ball (17:57.73). Trine senior Chloe Goodrich placed third (17:58.04).

Freshman Dasha Mason added a meet record for Calvin in the triple jump with a mark of 11.85m, eclipsing the previous record of 11.39m from 2022. Trine freshman Brooklyn Kerry also surpassed the old record to finish second (11.47m), while Calvin sophomore Alina Veltkamp placed third (10.98m).

Calvin's Easterling returned to win the shot put with a throw of 12.24m. Hope senior Kamryn Bice finished second (11.83m), and Alma freshman Ella Moylan was third (11.29m).

Trine senior Bailey Puckett captured the mile title in 4:54.41, edging Hope senior Molly Durow (4:54.69). Kalamazoo sophomore Ava King finished third (5:05.15).

Calvin senior Mia DeJonge set a meet record in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.92 seconds, breaking the 2022 record of 8.94. Calvin sophomore Cadence Drougal was second (9.05), and Hope sophomore Lydia Rowe placed third (9.08).

Hope senior Sara Schermerhorn defended her title in the 400m dash with a meet-record time of 57.29 seconds, surpassing her own 2025 record. Calvin freshman Alison Bailey finished second (59.06), and Hope's Klimp placed third (59.21).

Calvin senior Sydney Radigan won the 60m dash in a meet-record 7.57 seconds, breaking the 2024 mark of 7.68. Hope's Schermerhorn also eclipsed the previous record with a runner-up time of 7.61, while Hope sophomore Sofia Fisher finished third (7.79).

Trine's Puckett added a second victory in the 800m run, winning in 2:18.79. Hope's Durow placed second (2:19.37), and Calvin sophomore Peyton Ludwig finished third (2:19.86).

Calvin's Radigan completed her sprint double in the 200m dash with a meet-record time of 23.98, surpassing Schermerhorn’s 2025 record of 24.82. Schermerhorn finished second (24.37), and Calvin's Bailey was third (25.98).

Trine senior Eleanor Young won the 3,000m in 10:11.56. Hope junior Mary England placed second (10:18.51), and Trine's Goodrich finished third (10:20.06).

Hope closed the championships with a meet-record performance in the 4x400 relay, as freshman Savana Monville, senior Lauren Nemens, senior Frances Cozzens, and Schermerhorn combined for 4:02.13, breaking the previous record of 4:02.20 set by Hope in 2024. Calvin placed second (4:04.66) with Jessica Bossenbroek, Lola Davey, Jillian Tunnicliff, and Peyton Ludwig, while Trine finished third (4:07.17) with Kaylee Birely, Sophia Peter, Alyssa Possehn, and Ariana Todd.

Final team standings saw Calvin atop the podium with 220 points, followed by Hope (164.5) and Trine (138.33). Alma placed fourth (44.83), Adrian fifth (35.33), Albion sixth (25), Kalamazoo seventh (23), and Olivet eighth (12).

With the addition of combined events, the expansion to a two-day championship, and record-setting performances across the board, the 2026 meet marked a new chapter for MIAA women’s indoor track and field.
