Senior right-hander Bryan Carney of The University of Olivet delivered a performance for the ages—and the nation took notice.
Carney has been named to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week following a historic outing in Olivet’s 6-0 shutout victory at Albion College. In a game that will be remembered as one of the finest in program history, Carney was nearly untouchable, scattering just two hits and three walks while piling up an eye-popping 18 strikeouts.
The dominance didn’t just secure a win—it rewrote the Olivet record book. Over the course of the game, Carney broke the program’s single-game, single-season, and career strikeout records, cementing his legacy in a single afternoon.
His latest masterpiece also pushed him to the top of the national leaderboard. With 103 strikeouts this season, Carney leads all NCAA Division III pitchers, serving as the anchor of Olivet’s pitching staff and one of the most overpowering arms in the country.
Carney’s season-long numbers only reinforce his dominance. He currently leads the MIAA with a 1.18 earned-run average and 103 strikeouts, while also pacing the conference with 26 strikeouts looking. Opposing hitters have managed just a .154 batting average against him, and he has surrendered only three doubles all season—further proof of his ability to limit hard contact.
With momentum building behind their ace, Olivet returns to action Friday, April 24, with a road matchup at Adrian College, where Carney and the Comets will look to carry this historic performance into the final stretch of the season.
