Dealing Dominance: Olivet's Carney Named NCBWA National Pitcher of the Week

The University of Olivet senior right-hander Bryan Carney delivered a performance for the ages—and the national recognition followed.

Carney has been named the National Pitcher of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) after a dominant outing in an eight-inning shutout against Albion College. The Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan, native was nearly untouchable, striking out 18 batters while allowing just two hits.

Commanding the strike zone from the first pitch, Carney overwhelmed hitters with a mix of precision and poise. Nine of his 18 strikeouts came looking, a testament to both his control and ability to keep opposing batters off balance throughout the game.

The historic outing didn’t just secure a win—it etched Carney’s name into the Olivet record books. During the performance, he set both the single-season and career strikeout records for the Comets, further solidifying his legacy as one of the program’s most dominant pitchers.

Carney’s standout week also earned him a spot on the D3baseball.com Team of the Week, an honor announced on April 22.

With his latest accolades, Carney continues to build momentum in his senior campaign, emerging as one of the premier arms in Division III baseball.
