Olivet, Michigan — The University of Olivet has formalized its athletics leadership structure, building on a collaborative model that has guided the department over the past year.

The structure reflects an approach that emphasizes shared leadership, operational clarity and a continued focus on the student-athlete experience.

“The past year demonstrated the strength of a collaborative leadership model within Olivet Athletics,” said Ryan Shockey, vice president and chief operating officer. “This structure reflects how we operate at our best and positions us for long-term stability and success.”

The leadership team includes:

  • Athletic Director / Head Men’s Basketball Coach: Sam Hargraves — responsible for overall departmental leadership and external relations, including conference and NCAA engagement
  • Associate Athletic Director / Director of Wrestling: Brandon Brissette — overseeing internal operations, budgeting and administrative processes
  • Associate Athletic Director, Senior Woman Administrator / Head Women’s Volleyball Coach: Jenessa Hicks Neal — leading compliance and student-athlete success initiatives

Continuing leadership roles include:

  • Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Information and Communications: Geoff Henson
  • Assistant Athletic Director for Facilities and Game-Day Operations: Javier Smith

The Athletic Director reports to the Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, with all athletics staff aligned under this structure.

“We are grateful for the leadership and commitment Sam, Jenessa and Brandon have shown throughout this transition. Their care for our student-athletes, support for our coaches and belief in the future of Olivet athletics give us great confidence in the direction of the department. We are excited for what is ahead under Sam’s leadership and the continued work of this dedicated team,” Shockey said.
