BRIGHTON, Mich. -- The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Presidents' Council has named Lauren Bryne-Dunn as Interim Commissioner of the MIAA, effective immediately.
Bryne-Dunn assumes the role following the departure of Jason Horn, who recently accepted the position of Commissioner of the Red River Athletic Conference. Details regarding the search for the MIAA's next Commissioner will be announced in the near future.
“Lauren has earned this opportunity through her strong leadership, sound judgment, and dedicated service to the MIAA,” said Dr. Steven Corey, chair of the MIAA Presidents’ Council. “The Presidents’ Council is grateful for all she has contributed to the conference, and we have every confidence in her ability to lead the MIAA during this period of transition.”
Bryne-Dunn recently completed her sixth year with the MIAA and has served as the Association's Associate Commissioner and Senior Woman Administrator. Since joining the conference office in 2020, she has overseen numerous championship operations, sport administration responsibilities, governance initiatives, and student-athlete programming.
"I am incredibly honored to assume the role of Interim Commissioner during this time of transition," commented Bryne-Dunn. "The three commissioners I have had the privilege of working under—Penny Allen-Cook, Dr. Chris Brown, and Jason Horn—have each played a significant role in preparing me for this opportunity. I am especially grateful to the MIAA Presidents' Council, and its chair, Dr. Steven Corey, for placing their trust in me to lead the conference during this transition. I also want to thank my colleagues across the MIAA for the tremendous support they have shown me throughout the past several years. I look forward to continuing to serve our member institutions and student-athletes."
Bryne-Dunn has established herself as an active leader on the national level through numerous leadership opportunities. She has been a member of the Division III Assistant Commissioners Group (D3ACG) since August 2020 and most recently served as Second Vice Chair of the organization's Executive Board during the 2025-26 academic year. She previously served on the D3ACG Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Standing Committee and the Women Leaders in Sports Education and Professional Development Committee.
Over the past three years, Bryne-Dunn represented the MIAA on the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Regional Advisory Committee, helping oversee the regional ranking process.
Bryne-Dunn has also been actively involved with College Sports Communicators (CSC), serving on the Professional Development and Continuing Education Committee, the Mentorship Committee, and the CSC 30 Under 30 Selection Committee after being recognized as a member of the CSC 30 Under 30 Class of 2024.
Her commitment to leadership development has earned national recognition. In 2023, she was selected by the NCAA to participate in the Division III Senior Woman Administrator Program, held in conjunction with the Women Leaders in Sports Convention. The following year, she completed the NCAA Division III Inclusive Leadership Workshop Facilitator training and facilitated her first workshop in June 2025.
Bryne-Dunn was also selected to participate in the NCAA 2025 Fall Summit and NCAA Impact Forum, as well as the 2025-26 CSC Inclusion Fellowship. Most recently, she was announced as a participant in the NCAA 2026 Pathway Program, one of the Association's premier leadership development initiatives designed to prepare senior-level athletics administrators for future commissioner and campus executive roles.
Bryne-Dunn will lead America's First Conference with a continued focus on supporting its member institutions and enhancing the educational and competitive experiences of MIAA student-athletes.
