FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. -- The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) has announced its Athletes of the Week for the period covering April 27 - May 3. Each week throughout the academic year, the conference recognizes standout performances from student-athletes across its member institutions.
The MIAA Athlete of the Week honors are selected from nominations submitted by head coaches at each school. These awards spotlight the top individual efforts in competition and showcase the high level of play within the conference.
Selections are released every Monday at 4:00 p.m., with the exception of weeks impacted by federal holidays.
MIAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week - Bryan Carney, The University of Olivet
Senior pitcher Bryan Carney delivered a dominant performance in a 6–1 win over nationally-ranked Kalamazoo on Friday. Over 7.1 innings, Carney allowed just two hits with no walks or earned runs while striking out 12 batters, including five looking. He held the 24 batters he faced to a .083 batting average. Carney currently leads the league with a 1.35 ERA, 122 strikeouts, 32 strikeouts looking, and a .158 opponents' batting average.
MIAA Baseball Position Player of the Week - Jaxon McGuigan, Adrian College
Junior outfielder Jaxon McGuigan helped lead the Bulldogs to a 2–1 week against Hope to close out the regular season. Across three games and 13 at-bats, McGuigan recorded five runs, five hits, three RBIs, two doubles, a home run, and a stolen base. He posted a .385 batting average, a .769 slugging percentage, and a .385 on-base percentage. McGuigan currently ranks among the conference's top five with 40 runs scored and 17 stolen bases in 17 attempts.
MIAA Men's Golf Athlete of the Week - Jack Marzolino, Calvin University
Senior Jack Marzolino earned medalist honors at the MIAA Spring Finale while helping lead the Knights to the 2026 MIAA Men's Golf Championship title. Marzolino fired rounds of 70 and 68 to claim the individual title of the two-day event, while Calvin captured the Spring Finale team championship with a score of 576. With his performance, Marzolino became a three-time All-MIAA honoree.
MIAA Men's Lacrosse Offensive Athlete of the Week - Gibson Heethuis, Hope College
Junior attacker Gibson Heethuis helped lead the Flying Dutchmen to the 2026 MIAA Men's Lacrosse Tournament title Presented by Collegiate Credit Union with dominant performances in both postseason victories. In Hope's 8–7 semifinal win over Trine, Heethuis recorded four goals, one assist, and a ground ball. He followed with an extraordinary championship performance against Calvin, totaling four goals, eight assists, 12 points, and a ground ball. Heethuis currently leads the MIAA with 65 assists and 121 points, while ranking second with 56 goals.
MIAA Men's Lacrosse Defensive Athlete of the Week - Lance Hart, Hope College
Senior defender Lance Hart helped lead Hope to the 2026 MIAA Men's Lacrosse Tournament title Presented by Collegiate Credit Union with strong defensive performances throughout the postseason. In the 8–7 semifinal win over Trine, Hart recorded two caused turnovers and a ground ball. He followed with three ground balls and a caused turnover in Hope's 15–9 championship victory over Calvin.
MIAA Men's Lacrosse Specialist of the Week - Tyler Berens, Hope College
Sophomore long-stick midfielder Tyler Berens helped lead the Flying Dutchmen to the 2026 MIAA Men's Lacrosse Tournament title Presented by Collegiate Credit Union with dominant performances throughout the postseason. In Hope's 8–7 semifinal win over Trine, Berens totaled three caused turnovers and two ground balls. He followed with five caused turnovers, five ground balls, and an assist in the 15–9 championship victory over Calvin. Berens currently ranks third in the league with 2.39 caused turnovers per game.
MIAA Women's Lacrosse Offensive Athlete of the Week - Caleigh Randall, Hope College
Senior midfielder Caleigh Randall led Hope to the 2026 MIAA Women's Lacrosse Tournament title Presented by Collegiate Credit Union with dominant performances throughout the postseason. In the 18–13 semifinal win over Kalamazoo, Randall recorded two goals, one assist, three points, two ground balls, one caused turnover, and 12 draw controls. She followed with four goals, two ground balls, and 10 draw controls in the 16–8 championship victory over Calvin. Randall currently leads the league with 127 draw controls this season.
MIAA Women's Lacrosse Defensive Athlete of the Week - Samantha Smith, Hope College
Senior goalkeeper Samantha Smith helped lead Hope to the 2026 MIAA Women's Lacrosse Tournament title Presented by Collegiate Credit Union with strong performances in both postseason victories. In the 18–13 semifinal win over Kalamazoo, Smith recorded five saves. She followed with eight saves in Hope's 16–8 championship victory over Calvin. Smith finished the season second in the conference with a 10.09 goals-against average.
MIAA Women's Lacrosse Specialist of the Week - Caroline Curnutt, Hope College
Senior defender Caroline Curnutt helped lead the Flying Dutch to the 2026 MIAA Women's Lacrosse Tournament title Presented by Collegiate Credit Union with strong two-way performances throughout the postseason. In the 18–13 semifinal win over Kalamazoo, Curnutt recorded four draw controls, two ground balls, and a caused turnover. She followed with four draw controls and two caused turnovers in Hope's 16–8 championship victory over Calvin.
MIAA Softball Pitcher of the Week - Aubrey Zachary, Saint Mary's College
Sophomore pitcher Aubrey Zachary delivered two complete-game performances over the week, leading her team to a 4–1 win over Adrian and an 8–0 shutout against Albion. Across the two outings, Zachary posted a 0.58 ERA, allowing just one earned run while striking out 13 of the 48 batters she faced. She also held opponents to a .186 batting average.
MIAA Softball Position Player of the Week - Talia Jorgensen, Saint Mary's College
Second baseman Talia Jorgensen helped lead the Belles to a 2–2 week against Adrian and Albion with an outstanding all-around performance. In 13 at-bats, Jorgensen totaled five runs, eight hits, two RBIs, a triple, a walk, no strikeouts, and four stolen bases. She posted a .615 batting average, a .769 slugging percentage, and a .600 on-base percentage while playing flawless defense with nine putouts and three assists. Jorgensen currently ranks among the MIAA's top five with six triples and 19 stolen bases in 24 attempts.
MIAA Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week - Derek Blackwell, Kalamazoo College
Sophomore Derek Blackwell helped lead the Hornets to the 2026 MIAA Men's Tennis Tournament title Presented by Collegiate Credit Union with a perfect 2–0 record at No. 3 singles. In the semifinals, Blackwell earned a 6–2, 6–1 victory over Trine's Andrew Spirrison before dominating Hope's Karsten Patel 6–0, 6–0 in the championship match.
MIAA Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week - Amanda Lopykinski, Hope College
Senior Amanda Lopykinski helped lead the Flying Dutch to their 14th-consecutive MIAA Women's Tennis Tournament championship Presented by Collegiate Credit Union. After unfinished matches in the semifinals, Lopykinski secured a key 6–4, 6–4 victory over Calvin's Marina Ribeiro at No. 1 singles in the championship match.
MIAA Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week - Cooper Bright, Albion College
Senior Cooper Bright delivered an outstanding two-day performance at the MIAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships Presented by Collegiate Credit Union. Bright captured the conference title in the 200m dash with a time of 21.64, placed third in the 100m dash at 10.66, and ran the anchor leg of Albion's second-place 4x100 relay team that finished in 41.74.
MIAA Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week - Owen Fremeau, The University of Olivet
At the 2026 MIAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships Presented by Collegiate Credit Union, junior Owen Fremeau delivered a dominant performance in the field events, scoring 22 team points. Fremeau won both the shot put and hammer throw while also placing seventh in the discus. His hammer throw mark of 61.03m set a new MIAA meet record and currently ranks third nationally. He also recorded a winning shot put mark of 17.24m and posted a discus throw of 44.86m.
MIAA Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week - Sydney Radigan, Calvin University
Graduate student Sydney Radigan played a pivotal role in leading the Knights to the 2026 MIAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship title with a historic performance. Radigan won the 100m dash, 200m dash, and helped Calvin capture the 4x100 relay title, breaking meet records in all three events. She set new championship records of 11.63 in the 100m dash (previously 11.77), 23.68 in the 200m dash (previously 24.09), and helped Calvin's 4x100 relay team clock 47.00 (previously 47.18). Radigan currently leads the nation in both the 100m and 200m dash.
MIAA Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week - Jaidyn Klimp, Hope College
At the 2026 MIAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships Presented by Collegiate Credit Union, freshman Jaidyn Klimp delivered a dominant all-around performance, winning both the heptathlon and javelin while placing third in the high jump. She scored 41.5 total points for her team, including 26 points in field events alone. Klimp heptathlon score was nearly 800 points higher than the runner-up, showcasing her commanding versatility. She also reached the shot put finals, finishing ninth.
