Court Smarts: Trine Leads MIAA in WBCA National Academic Rankings

ATLANTA, Ga. -- The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) is once again being recognized for academic excellence on the hardwood, as three member institutions earned national distinction from the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) for the 2024-25 academic year.

The WBCA’s Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll, now in its 30th year, celebrates collegiate women’s basketball programs that achieved the highest combined team grade-point averages across NCAA Divisions I, II, III, NAIA, and two-year colleges. Teams that earned a 3.0 GPA or higher were eligible for inclusion, with the top 25 in each division honored and additional programs earning special mention.

Trine University led the way for America's First Conference, securing the No. 18 spot in Division III with an impressive 3.737 team grade-point average. The Thunder’s performance in the classroom reinforces their ongoing commitment to success beyond the court.

Two other MIAA institutions earned special mention for their academic achievements. Calvin University compiled a 3.611 GPA, while Kalamazoo College posted a grade-point average of 3.340. Both teams demonstrated the same discipline and focus in academics that they bring to competition.

The WBCA recognition highlights the dedication of MIAA women’s basketball student-athletes and their programs to maintaining a high standard in academics while competing at the collegiate level.
