FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. -- The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) has announced its Athletes of the Week for the period covering September 22-28. Each week throughout the academic year, the conference recognizes standout performances from student-athletes across its member institutions.
The MIAA Athlete of the Week honors are selected from nominations submitted by head coaches at each school. These awards spotlight the top individual efforts in competition and showcase the high level of play within the conference.
Selections are released every Monday at 4:00 p.m., with the exception of weeks impacted by federal holidays.
MIAA Football Offensive Athlete of the Week - Noah Beaudrie, Adrian College
Senior quarterback Noah Beaudrie led the Bulldogs to a 59-27 victory at Olivet in the regular-season opener on Saturday. Beaudrie threw for 296 yards and four touchdowns, completing 22-of-28 passes with a long of 86 yards, while adding 20 rushing yards. This season, Beaudrie currently leads the conference with 11 passing touchdowns and a 192.9 pass-efficiency rating. He also ranks second in the league with a .727 completion percentage and his longest pass of 86 yards.
MIAA Football Defensive Athlete of the Week - Carson Schnurstein, Calvin University
Sophomore linebacker Carson Schnurstein was all over the field in the Knights' 24-16 homecoming victory over Kalamazoo. Schnurstein recorded 10 tackles (three solo, seven assisted), including two tackles for a loss of 15 yards, a sack, and a quarterback hit. He currently leads the league with 54 total tackles this season (26 solo, 28 assisted) and 63 tackle yards, averaging 13.5 tackles per game. Nationally, Schnurstein is ranked third in total tackles.
MIAA Football Special Teams Athlete of the Week - Lucas Hanifan, Kalamazoo College
Senior Lucas Hanifan had a big day returning for the Hornets at Calvin. Hanifan had three kickoff returns for a total of 130 yards and a long of 70 yards. He also had two punt returns for 33 yards with a long of 22. On the day, Hanifan totaled 267 all-purpose yards with an additional 104 receiving yards. He currently leads the conference with 32.4 kick-return yards per game.
MIAA Men's Golf Athlete of the Week - Charlie Dierkes, Albion College
In his first career start in Albion’s lineup, freshman Charlie Dierkes shot a 1-under par 71 at the Medalist Golf Club to earn co-medalist honors for MIAA Jamboree No. 2. Dierkes led his team to a fourth-place finish, helping the Brits move up two spots to rank fourth in the conference standings.
MIAA Women's Golf Athlete of the Week - Jacey Merkle, Kalamazoo College
Sophomore Jacey Merkle earned medalist honors at the MIAA Women's Golf Jamboree No. 1 with a 74 (+2) at Thornapple Pointe Golf Club. Merkle additionally led the Hornets to their first MIAA Jamboree win in program history with a team finish of 315.
MIAA Men's Soccer Offensive Athlete of the Week - Will Lanham, Calvin University
Freshman forward Will Lanham helped Calvin to back-to-back victories with a 4-0 shutout versus Alma and a 3-1 victory over DePauw. Lanham scored two goals against the Scots in just 28 minutes of play. He is currently top ten in the MIAA with three goals.
MIAA Women's Soccer Offensive Athlete of the Week - Mia Johnson, Saint Mary's College
Freshman forward Mia Johnson scored all three goals in Saint Mary's 3-0 shutout against Earlham on Wednesday. Additionally, she recorded six shots. Johnson currently leads the MIAA with 10 goals (1.25 per game) and 21 points (2.63 per game). She also ranks second in the league with 42 shots (5.25 per game) and three game-winning goals.
MIAA Men's Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week - Jake Ziolo, Calvin University
Sophomore defeder Jake Ziolo assisted the Knights to a 4-0 shutout in their non-conference game versus Alma on Wednesday, followed by a 3-1 victory over DePauw on Saturday. Along with keeping Calvin at a 0.5 goals-against average for the week, Ziolo scored the game-winning goal in both games and added an assist vs. Alma.
MIAA Women's Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week - Meghan Krayer, Saint Mary's College
Freshman goalkeeper Meghan Krayer propelled the Belles to a 3-0 shutout versus Earlham on Wednesday. Krayer totaled seven saves with a perfect save percentage and earned her second clean sheet of her career.
MIAA Volleyball Player of the Week - Aerin Baker, Calvin University
Senior outside hitter Aerin Baker powered the Knights to a perfect week with 3-0 wins against Anderson, Concordia-Chicago, and Capital. Her standout play at the Alma Tournament earned her a spot on the All-Tournament Team. Baker averaged 4.56 kills per set while hitting .423 -- the highest since-week hitting percentage of her career. She also averaged nearly two digs per set despite playing only about half of her back row-rotations. Defensively, Baker averaged 0.44 blocks per set and posted a .978 serve-receive percentage with just one error in 45 attempts. She currently ranks second in the league with 3.86 kills per set and 4.47 points per set.
MIAA Volleyball Specialist of the Week - Lauren Lee, Hope College
Senior setter Lauren Lee guided the Flying Dutch to 3-1 victories over nationally-ranked Marietta (#14) and Illinois Wesleyan (#7) over the weekend. Across the two matches, Lee recorded 84 assists (10.50 per set), 14 digs (1.75 per set), eight kills, four service aces, and 13 points (1.63 per set). She currently ranks second in the conference with 9.84 assists per set (541 total).
MIAA Men's Swimming Athlete of the Week - Charles Platt, Calvin University
Senior Charles Platt opened the season with a strong performance at Friday's Be Better; Invitational at the University of Michigan. He posted the fastest times among Division III swimmers at the meet in the 100 free (46.13), 50 back (23.24), and 50 free (21.03). Platt also finished as runner-up in the 25-yard mystery shootout, winning every heat until the final, where he was edged out by a Wolverine. His finish marked the furthest advancement by a Division III swimmer in that event.
MIAA Women's Swimming Athlete of the Week - Greta Gidley, Hope College
Fifth-year senior Greta Gidley was the top Division III finisher in all four of her events at Friday's Be Better; Invitational, hosted by the University of Michigan. She opened the night by swimming the breaststroke leg (29.59) of the the 200 medley relay, which placed fifth with a time of 1:47.33. Gidley then finished fifth in the 100 IM (58.80), placing behind three Wolverines and a swimmer from Purdue. In the 25-yard mystery shootouts, she advanced to the fourth round. To close the meet, Gidley led off Hope's 400 free relay (3:34.45) with a 53.26 split.
MIAA Men's Diving Athlete of the Week - Finn Sanders, Hope College
Freshman Finn Sanders competed at the Be Better; Invitiational on Friday evening. At his first collegiate meet, Sanders placed third on the one-meter board behind two divers from the University of Michigan. He posted a score of 209.78.
MIAA Women's Diving Athlete of the Week - Laura Zupancic, Hope College
Junior Laura Zupancic opened the 2025-26 campaign at the Be Better; Invitational on Friday at the University of Michigan. Zupancic trailed a pair of Wolverines to finish third in the three-meter dive with a score of 211.65.
MIAA Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week - Will Seymour, Kalamazoo College
Sophomore Will Seymour finished the weekend 3-2 in singles at the ITA Central Regional to claim the runner-up position in the consolation finals. Seymour's victories included an 8-5 win over Trine's Drew Hackney, an 8-2 victory over Illinois Tech's Pedro Varoa-Accino Roca, and an 8-7(7-3) edge over Anderson's Ezekial Bergen.
MIAA Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week - Emma Beehler, Trine University
Sophomore Emma Beehler played a key role in extending the Thunder's win streak to six-consecutive victories this fall. Beehler teamed up with Addy Lockwood for a convincing 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles over Anderson on Tuesday, which helped clinch the doubles point. She then continued to dominate in singles, winning 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 2 spot. Beehler is currently 4-2 at No. 2 doubles and 3-0 at No. 3 singles this season.
