Three National Champions Lead MIAA Performances at NCAA Indoor Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Student-athletes from the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) delivered an impressive showing at the 2026 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships, held March 13–14 at the Birmingham CrossPlex. The weekend was highlighted by three national championships and several top-eight finishes from MIAA competitors.

Women's Indoor Track & Field Recap

Calvin University senior Sydney Radigan captured the national title in the 60m dash, crossing the line in 7.52 to secure the championship. Radigan later added a runner-up finish in the 200m dash with a time of 23.80.

Hope College senior Sara Schermerhorn earned a national title in dramatic fashion in the 400m dash. Schermerhorn posted a winning time of 54.41, edging the runner-up by just 0.004 seconds. She later added an eighth-place finish in the 200m dash with a time of 24.79.

Calvin senior Sophie Bull earned the conference’s third national title with a victory in the 3000m run, finishing in 9:32.19. Bull also helped lead Calvin’s distance medley relay team to a 10th-place finish alongside teammates Emma Wierenga, Alison Bailey, and Peyton Ludwig, as the quartet recorded a time of 11:52.79.

Senior Bailey Puckett of Trine University placed seventh in the mile with a time of 4:50.06. Senior Molly Durow of Hope College finished 15th in the mile with a time of 4:53.49.

Calvin freshman Dasha Mason recorded an 18th-place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 11.02m at her first national collegiate meet.

In the team standings, Calvin placed sixth with 28 points, Hope tied-for-19th with 11 points, and Trine tied-for-55th with two points.

Men's Indoor Track & Field Recap

Junior Owen Fremeau of The University of Olivet delivered a historic performance in the weight throw, finishing third with a mark of 19.21m to record the best indoor finish in Olivet program history. Fremeau also placed fourth in the shot put with a throw of 17.83m.

Calvin sophomore Abe VanDuinen secured an eighth-place finish in the 800m run with a time of 1:51.62.

Senior Braden Estep of Trine finished 16th in the 200m dash with a time of 21.89, while junior Dylan Terpstra of Hope placed 18th in the 400m dash in 48.90.

Calvin junior Zach VanBaren competed in the heptathlon, finishing 19th with 4,117 points.

In the men's team standings, Olivet finished 15th with 11 points, while Calvin tied-for-56th with one point.
