NEW ORLEANS, La. – The University of Olivet throws coach Daustin Martin has been named the 2025-26 Great Lakes Region Men's Indoor Assistant Coach of Year, according to the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Martin mentored Owen Fremeau to All-American honors in the shot put and weight throw at the 2026 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships. Fremeau also achieved UOlivet records in both events.
In addition, the other male throwers on the team combined to post additional all-time top 10 marks in the events. They also combined to score 26 of Olivet's 47 points at the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Indoor Track & Field Championships.
"Daustin has done a tremendous job with the throwers and our program since he started coaching at Olivet in 2023," said Olivet head coach Karen Lutzke. "Each year, he continues to develop as a coach. Owen's performances at nationals in the shot and weight were the highlights, but many other athletes had big improvements during the indoor season."
Martin, a graduate of University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, is in his third season on the Comets' track and field staff. During his time at UWW, he was a two-time NCAA All-American in the weight throw and national qualifier in the shot put. Martin earned All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors in the shot put, weight throw and hammer throw.
